As Rose ran up to her room to finish getting ready for school, I put my dishes in the sink and opened the cabinet in search of a smart pill. A smart pill is an amazing invention, you put it in a cup of water and place the cup in a solar oven, the pill will release nutrients and organic flavoring into the water to create a variety of drinks, my favorite being the rare mango flavor. Many years ago there was an insect that crawled into mangoes and destroyed the seeds, few mangoes were safe from the horrible Manducare, the insect that eats the seeds, and there was a major shortage of the delicious fruit. Quickly I punched in 12 seconds and waited for the solar oven to finish so I could have my yummy drink. BEEP! 'Okay, that drink is done.' I thought to myself. I reached in and grabbed the cool glass surface and yanked the mango flavored treat out of the solar oven only to shove it into my backpack. Walking out of the kitchen I touched the cold metal panel situated at the side of a tinted glass door that slid open at contact with my hand to reveal our coats. In the closet next to this one there are shoes and sports equipment in the last. I yank down a very old turquoise pea-coat that fits my body perfectly. Nowadays the only coats are all the same, white and puffy things that feel weird to wear, that is why I love this one so much, it is a hand me down from the Before, what we call to describe the times before the rise of Regenerated Earth. Smiling I swing my backpack on and head for the door calling out, "Bye mom, bye Rose! I'll see you after school!" as I push my hand into a gelatine-like liquid that takes a scan of my hand print to let me in and out of the door. Slowly the plasma-foam (that is what we call it) creeps off of my skin and the door slides open swiftly for me to step out before sliding closed yet again. As the sun hits my face I can't help but smile, I love sunrises because of their beauty and the serenity I feel when I walk out the door to be greeted by the drowsy sun. I stand there like an idiot for a minute before snapping out of my trance and walk over to a tarp in the driveway, yanking the cloth off of my rare vehicle. It is called a bike I believe, our school history classes don't focus on history at all but instead on nutrition for some weird reason, and my knowledge of the old inventions is sketchy. I don't know why bikes were discontinued, they seem like an amazing invention. Completely environmentally friendly and they are a thrill to ride, my bike is an old mountain bike with five gears on the left handle and ten on the right. My helmet is a matching turquoise to my coat and I painted my bike from it's original rusted brown into a midnight black coat with stars speckled across like night sky, planets and moons were later added to complete the look. All in all I love my bike and take the utmost care of it as if it were my own child. I fold the tarp and secure it at the side of the driveway and slide my key into the bike lock before deftly sliding onto the seat and pedaling off to school, the wind whipping through my naturally brown and blonde ombre hair which is pressed to my neck by the helmet. Silently I marvel at the beauty of the sunrise as I ride down hill and into the rising rays of light. 'Today is going to be good' I say to myself as a smile tugs at my lips.
