A piercing scream rips though my body and tears through my subconscious. My eyes flutter open and I leap to my feet only to find myself in complete darkness. I feel no pain, see no cuts. Although everything is dark and impossibly black, I can still see my arms. Swirling wisps of oily black dance around my body like tentacles of a deadly animal. I search for the person the scream belongs too but see nothing and no one. Suddenly another scream resonates around me. My body buzzes as I realize the voice does not come from one place but from around me. I am surrounded as the scream appears again but does not end. I can feel the pain, the hurt, the raw horror this person is experiencing. I try to run but trip and fall, arms reach up out of the ground and reach for my ankles. A white square appears in front of me and I muster all of my strength to run through to the other side.
I hear the voice again, this time as I wake up from my horrifying sleep. Screams surround me and I yet again search in vain for the person the scream belongs too. When I try to open my mouth to talk to the person I realize it was open. I was the on screaming. I try to sit up but my pain sends my down. By now a nurse has rushed in. She is speaking to me but I can't hear her, everything is fuzzy as my pain sends me into shock. Dazed, I look down and see tens of bruises. The gash on my arm is neatly bandaged but the shocking red standing out against the white draws my attention. I see my arm has a drip in it. This makes me freak out. A ringing noise fills the void as I try to rip the tubing out of my arm. The nurse runs forward frantic and grabs my wrists, the only uninjured part of me, and holds me down. I can faintly hear her calling for a doctor. As quick as a flash I had passed out.
Silence. My ears hear nothing. I reach my feet, looking down I see I am wearing a pure white dress, my arms have not even the faint hint of any marks. I see my hair is washed and untangled, I stand in the center of a forest. A mirror is a couple feet away but I am scared to look. Slowly, slowly, I creep to mirror and gasp. The soft spongy moss meets my knees as I buckle at my appearance. In the mirror I am an angel, but not the kind you would think of. No, certainly not the kind you would think of. I feel the top of my head and my back. A perfect circle hovers over my silky hair and unbroken wings are folded onto my back. As tears seep from my eyes I unwillingly picture the gruesome girl in the mirror. Her dress was ripped and dirty, the bottom half completely covered in blood. Her ombre golden hair was a rat's nest, tangles and frizz as it stuck out in all directions, her halo snapped and rusty. The wings on her back were broken and red. And then there was her face. With her pure black eyes and a demented smile, I can tell that all that blood wasn't hers. It belonged to the corpses at her feet.
My eyes fly open again as my panic sends my heart racing fast and furiously. I hear monitors beeping as footsteps quickly approach. As the door opens I feel a sudden calm rushing over my body as a doctor rushes in with several nurses. He holds a syringe and seems surprised to see me laying down relaxed. I smile at him and saw with a sad look on m face.
"Please don't send me to sleep, the nightmares are horrible."
