PREMATURE BIRTH

Anuj was in his office. He has just gotten a very big deal. He was so happy. He called Anu but her phone was unreachable. Just as he was about to call her again, he received a call from an unknown number. He picked the call and a lady's voice greeted him.

Lady - Hello, Is this Mr Anuj Kapadia?

Anuj - Yes, who am I speaking to?

Lady - I am speaking from the Central hospital. Your friend Ms Anupama Joshi has met with an accident and she is admitted to the ICU.

For the first time in his life, he was terrified. He quickly noted down the address of the hospital and cut the call. He rushed to the hospital breaking all the signals and rules. As soon as he entered in the hospital, he searched for his Anu.

Anuj - Where is Anu? I...i mean..anupama joshi, where is she?

Nurse - Are you Mr Anuj Kapadia?

Anuj - Yes.

Nurse - Sir first you have to fill a form and write all the details about yourself, then....

Anuj - SHUT THE FUCK UP! TELL ME WHERE IS MY ANU, NOW.

His shouts grabbed everyone's attention and everyone in the hospital looked at him.

Nurse - (scared) She....she... is in the ICU. 3rd floor, room 201.

Anuj nodded and went to the 3rd floor.

He immediately rushed towards the ICU but someone stopped him.

Doctor - Wait, you cannot enter in the room. The operation is going on. Wait till it finishes.

Anuj - But is she.....is she ....okay?

Doctor - We couldn't say that now. She is very critical. We are trying our best. So sir, I request you to wait outside for sometime.

Anuj nodded and waited outside. Every minute felt like an eternity to him. He suddenly remembers their early conversation.

Flashback

Anuj - Toh aab tum bhi mujhse ek vaada karo.

Anu - Kya?

Anuj - Tum bhi mujhe chodke kabhi bhi nahi jaogi, promise?

Anu - Promise nahi jaongi.

Anuj - Good aab yaha aajo, aur ek kiss doh.

Anu laughs and tries to get out of his hold.

Tears flows from his eyes as he recalls those memories.

Anuj - [In his mind] Anu tumne vaada kiya tha na.....toh please please please mat jao....please meri jaan mat jao mujhe chodke......Please Anu....

He sits on the chair and sobs badly. He coundn't imagine his life without her now. In the past when he lost her, he didn't felt that miserable because then she was never his. But now the time is different, she is HIS and his alone. Also the little life in her is his. He couldn't losse his family now.

Finally after 1 hour the door opened followed by the doctor. He quickly went to the doctor and asked him about her.

Doctor - She is out of danger now.

Anuj sighed in relief. But doctors next words made his jaw clench and a look of panic appeared on his face.

Doctor - But the baby is not fine. Right arm of the baby is injured. So we will have to deliver the child now.

Anuj - WHAT? But she is only 8 months pregnant. There is still 1 month left.

Doctor - Yes Mr Kapadia, but try to understand. Your child's right arm is brutally injured so we must proceed with the delivery as fast as possible.

Anuj nodded his head.

Anuj - Alright. But is my baby okay?

Doctor - Yes, he is fine, only a little injury. We will start with the delivery in 1 hour. Till the time, you can meet your wife. She is awake now.

Anuj wiped off his tears, breathed deeply and went inside the room. There he saw his beautiful fiance, his love, his life lying on the hospital bed. She was looking so pale with so many bruises on her forehead, arms, face, neck, shoulders. His tears started flowing again. He just couldn't see his world like that. He glanced at her swallon belly. He went near her and sat on the chair. Anu looked at him and smiled.

Anu - (In a hoarse voice) Hey.

Anuj - Hey, how are you feeling now?

Anu - Alive.

Anuj smiles at her but again starts crying.

Anu - Anuj please mat royiye. Aapko dekh ke mujhe bhi rona aa raha hai.

Anuj - Par Anu tumhe ase dekh ke aason rukh hee nahi rahe hai.

Anu - (smiles) Mai aab bilkul thik hoon, aab rona baandh kijiye, okay? Waise doctor ne bataya delivery abhi karni hogi.

Anuj wipes his tears with the back of his hand and smiles.

Anuj - Ha, Anu abhi thodi hee der mai humara baccha aayega. (His smile brightens at the mention of their baby)

They both smiles.

Anuj - Ek sawaal puchoon?

Anu - Ha puchiye ne.

Anuj - Tumhara accident kisne kiya? Kuch yaad hai?

Anu gulp down and looks at him nervously.

Anu - H...ha...haan.
