Chapter 4-
Ana watched as the doctor left the house. He didn't seem in his usual mood and Ana could tell something was up.
The doctor was a middle aged doctor; he was not someone that Ana would have ever trusted in the first place, as he seemed inexperienced. He had a carefree personality and was always sticking his nose where it didn't belong. But tonight, when he had came to check up on Amber, he was more withdrawn, and he didn't ask nearly as many questions as he usually did.
Ana was too deep in thought to hear a small cough from the other side of the room.
"Ana." Amber called, her throat scratchy from sleeping for a few hours.
Ana still was deaf to the world.
"Ana! Anabel Gaea Myrna!" Amber shouted the best she could with her scratched up throat.
"Huh?" Ana said, turning toward Amber's voice.
"Yeah, stone ears, I was calling your name." Amber said, quoting one of her favorite books.
"I didn't even notice you were awake, sorry." Anabel apologized.
"Maybe you should be stone head instead." Amber teased, wordlessly accepting Ana's apology.
"Hey." Ana said, shaking her head and coming over to the bed. "Not nice."
"I know. But look at me! I'm on bed rest during our birthday!" Amber whined.
"I know." She paused. "Sucks for you! Haha." Ana's face grew serious. " But Amber. Do you remember what happened?"
"No, all I remember is being in the attic and-" Amber squinted her eyes. "-picking up the chest? No, I didn't do that. Wait, yes I did. It all went blank after that."
"Well, look what I've got." A rare gleam of mischief flashed through Ana's eyes as she pulled the chest out from underneath the bed in a dishcloth.
"N-No, Ana. I am not touching that thing." Amber said shakily, but she knew what she truly wanted.
"Why? I thought you didn't remember."
"But I know something happened, Anabel, and you won't tell me for a reason." Amber said, telling the harsh truth to Ana.
Anabel knew why Amber didn't want to be adventurous; Amber had taken the risk before, and Amber didn't want it to happen again.
"Whatever, but Amber since you don't remember, don't touch the chest. " Ana said playfully, honestly she cares about Amber, but she also cared about what was in the chest itself and what it did to Amber.
"Y-yeah" Amber stuttered, but it was obvious she was deep in thought because Ana left the room and carefully kept the chest in a place Amber couldn't find it, and when she came back Amber was still in the same position as Ana left her.
"Hey Amber- "Ana called, but still, there was no response from Amber. "Amber!!" She shouted her name two, three times and finally got up from her chair and smacked Amber on her arm.
"Ow." Amber said, rubbing her arm. "Why'd you do that?"
"Really? C'mon Amber." Ana said sitting on her bed. " And you called me stone head."
"Sorry, I was just thinking." Amber said dazedly, smiling at her sister.
"Okay, if you say so." Ana slowly and picked up a magazine and glanced through it, not read, but glanced, they were also fashionable too also one of the twin's many abilities, was to accessorize and things alike to that.
Ana paused within reading.
Anabel cocked her head. "Or do you even know? Or are you just as stupid to not realize the true me?"
"Ana, c'mon, I know you." Amber said confidently.
But what Amber didn't know was that the chest had another person captive.
"Hah. No you don't." Ana's voice had gone higher, and higher was the place you never wanted it to go. "You only know the part of me that I never show. The part of me that I never want to show." She scoffed. "Like this." Ana found Amber's hand, and after giving it a small squeeze, slapped it with all her strength.
"Ana, what the heck is wrong with you?!?" Amber asked angrily, rubbing her hand, as Ana released her grip from Amber.
Ana looked innocently at her sister "I just wanted to prove my point." Ana shrugged and went back to her magazine.
"I guess you were right, I really don't know my own sister anymore." Amber snapped coldly at her sister.
Ana gave a small laugh and continued to read, honestly Amber couldn't understand why Ana was behaving that way.
And even Ana didn't understand why she was acting that way.
