Chapter 1
In the West side of Willowsphere , Amber and Anabel were studying for the annual State Maths competition held in Willowsphere. Honestly, they didn't really need to study, and they knew it, but they had to do something to pass away the time.
"Hey Amber", Anabel called.
"Yeah?" Amber replied.
"How many solutions have you solved?" Anabel asked, yawning and shutting her textbook.
"Well, everything is so clear and easy, so I'm about to finish the textbook. " Amber said looking at her bored twin sister. "What about you?"
"Done with everything." Anabel said getting up from the chair. "There's nothing fun to do in this stupid house."
"I know that, we just sit and study for no apparent reason." Amber said also getting up. "We know the stuff, so why do we still learn it?"
"We're almost 16 and nothing fun has happened, even since we graduated." Anabel said, pouting about the lack of exitement in her life.
"Let's go down to the garden and sit, talk, drink some of mum's freshly squeezed orange juice." Amber said, shrugging. "That's all we can do for now."
"Well that sounds like something, but it's not fun enough." Anabel said rolling her eyes.
"Hey, that's what we've got." Amber explained sassily, and crossed her arms.
"Whatever.” Anabel said rolling her eyes and walking off to the kitchen.
"C'mon Ana, don't be a baby." Amber said, walking to kitchen to join her twin.
In the kitchen the twins' mother, Ava, was baking raspberry tarts.
"Just in time girls, want some tarts?" Ava said to the bored twins
"Yes." They both said in unision.
"Hmmm...for girls who just graduated, you're not so happy" Ava said, taking the tarts out of the oven with her thick, cotton, mitts.
"No,” Anabel laughed.”Mum, it's just that there's nothing fun to do anymore, we, like, know everything and it's boring.” Anabel said, leaning against the table.
"Yeah, mum, Ana's right." Amber said, agreeing with Anabel.
“Why can’t we just roam around? It’s just dreary and boring inside the house.” As much as Amber and Anabel were alike, they still had differences. Ana had the looks of her father-- a sturdy, proud man--but Amber had the looks of her mother-- average nose, average everything-- but what they didn’t know was they both envied each other’s looks.
Anabel had a natural talent for cooking and music, but could not look for things, even with the bait of 20 dollars. Amber, on the other hand, had a natural talent for art and loves to write poems and books.
“Hey, it’s not that dreary here, you know, Ana. I mean, look at the attic sometime.” Their mother sighed. The twins were always bored. It wasn’t her fault that their father had died three years ago from a drunk driving accident, and left them with very little money, not to mention another sibling rather than just the two twins, whose name was Ryan.
“But you know the attic has holes in the floor.” Ana whined.
“C’mon, please?”
Amber gave her best puppy dog eyes.
And sadly, Ana was victim to them.
“Ugh, fine, but only this one time.” Ana gave in, and immediately regretting it when she saw a mischievous look in Amber’s eyes.
