Part 54: Resurrection

"Hope darling, you need to relax. When a monster shows, we'll know it."

Hope lets out a sigh as she turns away from the window to look at her aunt, "You don't think it's strange? I mean, no monsters have shown up since I came home 2 days ago. This has got to be a record."

"Maybe this is a good sign. Perhaps Malivore is becoming weaker."

Hope contemplates it, but when has she ever had such luck?

She walks back over to the kitchen island, picking up her coffee mug, earning a raised eyebrow from her aunt as she still seems antsy, "How much coffee have you had this morning?"

"Not enough."

"I beg to differ. You're one sip away from bouncing off the walls."

Hope sighs, "I'm sorry. All this waiting is making me anxious."

"Perhaps this will help..." Rebekah smiles as she sets a plate with a pancake on it down on the countertop.

"Thanks Bex," Hope takes a seat at the barstool with Rebekah taking a seat beside her.

"So...should I expect Josie to be your plus one for the wedding?"

Hope hums at the thought as she takes a bite of her food, "Hm...I haven't really talked to her about it. There's still so much time between now and then...But I guess that really depends on how she feels about it, plus if it's even safe for her to be near me."

Rebekah gives her a slow nod, "I know this is hard for you...being away from your friends, I mean."

"The fact that they are safe makes it easier to cope with the distance."

As if on cue, Hope's phone rings, with Rebekah giving her permission to answer, "Go ahead sweetheart. It might be important."

Hope picks up her phone to see Dr. Saltzman's name on her screen, "Hello?"

"Hope, I'm not exactly sure how to tell you this...but Rafael's girlfriend just showed up at the school..."

Having impeccable vampire hearing, Rebekah furrows her eyebrows in confusion, "I thought Rafael's girlfriend was dead?"

Hope is just as confused as she gets up from her seat, "She is, that's how Raf triggered his werewolf curse...Dr. Saltzman, does this mean she's a vampire now?"

"I'm not exactly sure what it means, but I think we may need your help figuring it out."

"I'm on my way."

Hope arrives at the school very quickly, barging in the front door, seeing Dr. Saltzman there with MG, "Where are they?"

She's honestly really worried about Raf. He's struggled with his role in the death of his girlfriend for a while now, and this all can't be helping his mental state. It's probably confusing for him, as it is for everyone really.

"Cassie is down in one of the werewolf transition cells right now."

"And Raf?"

MG gives Hope an empathetic look, "He's...trying to act strong. He stormed off to his room a minute ago."

"So...how is she even here? She died over 7 months ago. Her death triggered Raf's curse."

"Josie and Lizzie are testing her DNA now to see if she's a supernatural creature, so if she was somehow sired by a vampire, we'll find out."

Their conversation is interrupted by Lizzie and Josie joining them in the hall, with Josie immediately taking Hope's hand in her own and leaving a reassuring kiss to her temple, and it actually does allow Hope to breathe a little easier.
