TW: mentions of depression and self harm

"Mrs. Bakugo?" Mitsuki looked up to see a nurse with brown hair twisted into a tight bun standing in the doorway with a clipboard. Mitsuki raised her hand and the lady quickly walked over, "Hi my name is Helen," the nurse said with a smile, "we're transferring your son to the hospital, so if you'll please come with me as we take him over and Doctor Charles can fill you in on the details." Mitsuki followed Helen into the hallway where Katsuki lay sleeping peacefully on the hospital bed, she couldn't help but smile as she watched her son's chest rise and fall in perfect rhythm with his breathing. It had been a long time since she had seen him so at peace.

Mitsuki stood in the doorway as she watched the nurse take her son's vitals and hook him up to machines, It was 11 o'clock at night and visiting hours were long over, but she stood waiting for the doctor to tell her the results. Kirishima was about to tell her what happened but Sensei Aizawa came out and took him back to UA, now she was left to wonder and piece together what happened to him.

"Mitsuki Bakugo?" An elderly man said from behind. His tag read 'Doctor Jamus R. Charles'. He was a nice-looking man, with welcoming blue eyes.

"That's me," she said with a smile

"Sorry to keep you waiting so long, I had to deal with an emergency. Why don't I walk you outside and we can talk on the way."

"I don't want to take you from your work." Mitsuki said, turning her gaze to the room behind him where Izuku Midoryia lay.

"No, it's fine. I'm going home anyway," he gestured towards the elevator and they began to walk, "I need to ask you a few questions, just standard procedure with these kinds of injuries," he said stepping into the elevator, "have you or your husband ever been charged with child abuse"

"No," Mitsuki said almost in a whisper, she couldn’t imagine hurting her child. They may yell at each other but it's out of love, "Doctor, what happened to my child?"

"That's something you'll have to ask him tomorrow," they were sitting on a bench outside of the hospital. It was quiet and dark, the smell of rain was carried in the wind, "but for now I can tell you what he has," he looked down at the clipboard and began flipping through pages, " some of the glass was stuck pretty deep in his back and cut a few nerves, fortunately, they didn't sever any. One was dangerously close to his spine, but luckily it only scratched the bone."

Mitsuki stared at the floor, hands on her head, trying to control her breath. She couldn't believe this had happened, especially on the week her husband was out of town on a trip. She felt him gently place a hand on her back

"Are you okay?" He asked with a smile

"Yes, please continue."

"We took him in for an X-ray to make sure there was no damage to his spine, while there was no damage to it he does have a fractured jaw, 7 broken ribs, and one punctured his lung. It's not too serious, but that's why we need to keep him here for the next couple of days."

"How does someone end up with a fractured jaw, 7 broken ribs, a punctured lung, and  glass shards in their back?" Mitsuki wiped a tear from her face as she tried to wrap her head around all that's happened

"I wish I had the answers, but I don't. But you don't need to worry for tonight, your son is in good hands," Mitsuki nodded her head and began to leave, "I have one more question before you leave, it’s not a medical question, just one that’s been bothering me."

"What?" Mitsuki didn't know if she could take much more but wanting to know she turned around to face the doctor

"Does your son struggle with depression or self-harm?”

“No, he doesn’t,” Mitsuki said sounding distant, “or well,” she sighed and looked back at the doctor, “not that I know of. Why?”

“ no reason,” he said patting Mitsuki on the shoulder, “just thought I saw something. Have a goodnight. It was nice to meet you.”

Doctor Charles walked off into the night leaving Mitsuki alone in the dark to ponder what the doctor told her. She stood and stared at her car for a couple of minutes before getting in and peeling out of the parking lot, her thoughts flying as fast as her car. None of this made sense, why would Katsuki fight Izuku, and why did he end up in the emergency room with a fractured jaw, seven broken ribs, and a punctured lung. Mitsuki couldn’t concentrate on the road and started swerving, so she pulled off into a tiny parking lot where she sat and cried.
