Kat opened his eyes and took a deep breath, startled by all the noise and bright lights, everything looked unfamiliar to him. He wasn’t at home, and he wasn’t at UA. Had he been kidnapped by The League again? No, everything was too bright, white, and loud for that. It seemed more like a doctor's office or a hospital room. Bakugo closed his eye and laid back down, trying to remember how and why he ended up in a hospital room. All he could see were different fragments of the weirdly realistic dream he had; him sitting on clouds, then on a beach, smiling at the gray sky, and talking to the waves.

‘There has to be more’ he thought. Katsuki rolled over on his side and stared out the door into the busy hallway, nurses in green and grey were rushing around with clipboards, presumably helping all the other unfortunate souls who ended up here. He rolled back on his back and closed his eyes one final time; this memory was different though. It wasn’t of him, but Kirishima. Eijiro had somehow gotten inside his house, he was yelling something while running towards someone, it was all a blur and he couldn’t remember or see much, but one thing was clear through the blur of dull colors, him.

Bakugo sat up and began hyperventilating. He remembered everything. The lies, the pills, the guilt, all his regret and pain. He remembered calling Kirishima, trying to undo what he had done but it was too late, he couldn’t talk, breath or move. Katsuki remembered whispering to someone that he didn’t want to die and then it all went black.

He fell back onto his pillow, repeatedly banging his head into its feathery softness. He really was pathetic. Of all the ways he planned to die, he had to choose this one. The one that didn’t guarantee success like so many others, but maybe, deep down, he hadn’t wanted to die.

“Katsuki?” Bakugo didn’t realize his mother had been sitting in a chair next to him. Her face looked pale in the bright lights of his room, her eyes were a light shade of pink and had light circles underneath. She looked tired and beat, her hair was a mess and her clothes rumpled and unkempt. She hesitantly sat in the bed next to his feet before wrapping him in a hug. Katsuki tightly hugged his mother back, feeling like if he loosened his grip she’d slip away and be gone forever.

“I thought I lost you.” she whispered in his ear. Kat shook his head in response and buried it further in her shoulder, holding back tears.

“I'm sorry mom,” he said softly, “for everything. For being stubborn and not listening. I'm sorry for being a burden, reckless, and arrogant. Dad was right when he said I was a pathetic loser. “Mitsuki pulled away, placing a hand on his cheek.

“Baby, you’re fine,” she said smiling and moving next to him, placing an arm around his shoulder, “you’re not a burden or a loser. Being reckless and stubborn is just part of who you are,” she said running her fingers through his soft, ash blonde hair.

“So, you’re not made at me? Or hate me?” he said pulling his knees closer to his chest.

“of course not,” Mitsuki said holding him tightly, "you're my son, a spitting image of me with a fiery passion to the best. I could never hate you.”

“Dad does.” saying that out loud kind of hurt Katsuki. He'd known his father didn’t like him all that much, and the fact that he wasn’t there in the room with his mom meant he was still in America, not caring about his own son.

“Your father cares only about himself,” Mitsuki said softly, a hint of sadness in her voice, “don’t worry about him though, I’m here and your alive so let's just focus on that.”

Katsuki smiled and leaned into his mother. It was nice to be close to her again, just the two of them. No yelling or hatred, no disappointment because of something he did. This was all he ever wanted, was too be close to her again, wrapped in her warm embrace.
