Chapter 24:

After the long and excruciating hour and a half, Trey said we arrived. I expected myself to react differently. For my heart to race out of my chest, my hands to get all clammy and sweaty, but instead all I said was, "This is it?"

We were in front of a regular looking brownstone apartment building. I was expecting an evil demon lair to be well, more evil looking.

"It seems to be." David said as he took out a glowing blade from the glove compartment. He started handing out weapons to all of us. Trey got a grenade and a dagger that had an odd intricate pattern on the handle, Hanna a sword that said something in a language I didn't recognize, a hush of silence fell over the car when it came to the blade David handed me. It was Hunter's.

"He would want you to have this." He said not looking me directly in the eye.

"Thanks." I somehow managed to say

It was beautiful, possibly the most beautiful sword that ever existed. It fit perfectly in my hand, like it was meant to be there, like how Hunter's hand felt in mine. For the first time today I felt calm. Not happy, not even peaceful, but calm. I was reminded of Hunter, the boy I loved, and I felt him here with me.

David opened his door and said, "C'mon let' s go." and ever so casually, as if it was the most normal thing in the world, everybody stepped out of the car weapons in hand.

"Guys!" I yelled still in my seat.

They all turned to me, eyebrows raised in question.

"You can't just barge in guns blazing. You can't even walk around with these weapons!" I said

Trey laughed and walked towards me, putting a hand on my shoulder,

"David put an enchantment on them. Humans won't see them, only other supernaturals and and demons will."

"Oh," I said feeling stupid "That makes sense I guess." and got out of the car holding Hunters sword close to me.

Now my heart starting beating faster, and my hands got sweaty and clammy. We were doing this, we were actually doing this. Hanna flashed me a smile as we walked towards the double glass doors.

Inside it looked like any other apartment building- except empty. The lights were on, the front desk just sat there with no one. Our footsteps on the marble staircase was the only sound we heard. When we came to the first floor we were met by the same sight. It was completely silent. We heard no parents, kids, teenagers, not one sound. David quietly walked to the first door and jiggled the doorknob to see if it would open. It did. He motioned for us to follow, weapons ready for any surprise attacks. This was where Tyler was being held captive after all.

The four of us walked in, my heart pounding out of my chest. It looked like a typical American family's home-except nobody was there. The TV was muted but was still playing a movie (Toy Story 2), pillows rumpled on the grey plush couch. Pictures of a happy family, young mom and dad and their son who looked about 3 years old, scattered the walls. I continued deeper into the apartment. It was terrifying how obvious it was that people lived here.

Where were they now?

Toys were all over the floor, coffee in the kitchen still hot. A chair was on the floor cracked to pieces. What had happened?

I saw David open his mouth to say something, but I cut him off with,

"I swear to god David if you call out 'hello anybody there?' I will bash your head myself. Have you seen ANY movies?"
