Chapter eight
"Dear Ava," the letter read. It was handwritten and messy, like it was written in a hurry. "I don't know when you will read this, or if you ever will. I hope though, that you will open this letter before it is too late. If you did open this, and are reading this very sentence at this very moment, I would just like to say IT'S ABOUT TIME you might have started noticing that some weird things were happening. And if you haven't you'll start noticing very soon, don't worry. Why don't I start to list the things tthat you're probably about to, it'll be almost exactly like we're doing at the same time!,
You have no significant bruising from your brutal attack. Which makes no sense because from the beating you took you should at least have a few broken bones and ribs. You were out cold but I remember when I heroically carried you to safety, the way your jaw had been dislocated, and the ragged rise and fall of your chest every time you let out a painful breath. Ava, you may not know this, but when Mike attacked you, he stabbed you with a knife by your heart. You were already unconscious at that point, he just wanted to finish his job. That was when I stopped fighting him, grabbed you and ran. Dear Lord, I never ran so fast in my entire life. You shouldve seen his face, it was terrifying. I really thought we were going to die. Anyways, look at your chest, right above where your heart is. Do you see a puncture wound? Do you see anything?
I took a break from the letter and looked. He was right. There was nothing there. I shuddered at the thought of that monster stabbing me. But what scared me even more was, what if these impossible 'miracles' did'nt happen to me? What if Hunter never would have witnessed my attack? Where would I be then?
2. In the words of the poetic genius Dr Suess; You are stronger than you seem. What does that mean? you ask yourself. Well, punch a wall and you'll see what I mean, if you were to hit a pillow you would notice how within seconds it would explode and the feathers would be all over the place. You are also faster than you believe, even if Dr Suess doesn't say so. It would take you 25 minutes to run a marathon, without breaking a sweat or even getting out of breath.
I took a break from reading. This had to be some sort of joke. Right? I glanced over at Bob, now headless Bob, and realized that this was not a joke. I put down the letter, and flung open my closet looking for my long forgotten running clothes. Once I was all geared up, I stuffed the paper into my sports bra,and went to tell my parents I was going for a run.
They looked at me like I fell off the moon. "Absolutely not." My dad said.
"Why not?" I whined. I was desperate to try anything that would get me out of this apartment so I could test Hunters absurd theory.
"Why not? Do you even hear yourself, Ava? You just came back from the hospital. You were mugged, and then in a coma for three days,do you really think I'm going to just let you leave and go running? C'mon."
I pouted, annoyed, but I realized there was no chance I would win my father on this. "Fine." I said and went back to my room.
"Don't forget your painkillers dear!" My mom hollered after me.
I wanted to tear my hair out of frustration. How many times did I have to explain to them that I felt fine and didn't need any painkillers? Even though I couldn't go running, I was determined to prove that I did not have super speed before I continued reading that insane letter. My room was pretty spacious, and since hadn't been in here in the past 3 days it was actually clean. My bed was placed in the middle of the room and I started to pace around it, thinking of a way to run without leaving this room.
Then I realized how stupid I was, and decided to change that.
I started to quicken my pace, until I was jogging-or what was supposed to be a jog. All I could tell you was that I had the sensation of flying, and feeling as if my feet never touched the ground. I was just moving with such incredible speed it didn't make sense. I felt like I had turned into the flash, or the road runner. Man was this weird. I can't tell you how I did it, but somehow I managed to stop myself.
