Chapter 19

"We have to go." I said determined. No more moping around thinking about finding Tyler- we were actually going to.

"Calm down Ava," David said "we will go but first we need to figure out all the technicalities. Who goes, who stays, what weapons to bring.."

"Well figure it out," I said getting irritated. "Call a magical meeting, figure out who we need. I can't be told to sit around and WAIT anymore. I'm sick of waiting, I want to do something."

"Your right, I'm sorry. I'll call a meeting right now, you just try and figure out why he would be taken. If it's a demon attack or just a random kidnapping. Okay?" He said

It stung when he said 'kidnapping' but I nodded.

Their meeting took place in the room adjacent to the one I sat in. I was sitting across from a book shelf that reached the ceiling. It was filled with books all the way to the top. I got up from the red plush egg chair curious what kind of books these people read. I closed my eyes and let my hand wonder picking up a random book.

'Everything You Need to Know about Demons and The Underworld: Volume One.' I was curious and turned to the index, maybe this would have something to help.

Sure enough-Chapter 6: Demons vs. Humans

I turned there hoping it would shed some light on everything that was happening. I didn't know why or how, but I knew this wasn't just a random kidnapping, Tyler was taken by a demon and I needed to know why.

Page 689 had my answer.

"Asperdemonprotocol, LesserDemonsdo what iscommandedofthembytheirmasters. Theyhavenomindoftheirown. Andthereforecanneverbereasonedwith. And then it hit me. I ran into the room where everyone sat around the table and blurted out; "I know why Tyler was targeted."

That got everyone's attention.

"What is it Ava?"Hunter sked me softly

"It's me. I was the target Halloween night, that thing was coming for me. When it couldn't its master commanded another slave to take Tyler, because he's close to me and he can't defend himself like we can." I said shaking

This was my fault- even indirectly.

Hunter nodded, "While that theory downright terrifies me, it makes sense." He looked around the table as if to see of anyone disagreed but they were all nodding their heads.

"Now what?" Trey asked

"Now we go search for Tyler," Hunter said. "Whoever can be an asset to this assignment raise your hand and if not stay back because the people of New York need you."

After some arguing and negotiating it was decided that it would be a team of 6: David, Summer, Hanna, Trey, Hunter and I. When everybody seperated to take care of what they needed to Hunter took me to the side and said,

"I know I have zero chance in convincing you to stay back so I won't even try."

"Good." I said

"I will say this though," he said as he took my hands in his and looked me directly in the eye. "It's going to be rough, and dangerous, and messy, and god knows what else out there. And if you're right then you're in even more danger than the rest of us, and that scares me to death. So I'm going to be straight with you, I need you to be careful. I'm going to be downright selfish right now, but I can't lose you Ava, I can't. So please, please promise me you'll be careful out there. Your a strong, beautiful, brilliant independent woman but we need you, I need you. So please don't think that what happens to you only affects you because that's not the case. It affects the whole team, and again selfishly, it affects me. And if anything happened to you," he shook his head as if to get the thought out of his head "I wouldn't be able to live with myself. Promise me that, okay?"
