chapter 10:
Three days later I woke up to Aden knocking, more like banging, on my door and yelling,
" Ava! Hurry up! We're going to be late!"
" I'm coming" I mumbled as I covered my face with my pillow.
Besides for the fact I didn't want to face reality just yet, I was also a lazy butt and didn't want to get out of bed. Why did I agree to this? I thought to myself already regretting my decision of going back to school.
I dragged myself out of bed and threw on jeans and a hoodie. I put my hair in a braid and ran out of my room with my phone and iPod.
I went to the kitchen and quickly ate breakfast. Aden looked at me and said,
" Dude, chill you don't need to eat so fast."
I shrugged and said," Whatever."
He looked at me square in the eye and I said,"What?" With my face stuffed with cereal
" You okay? Are you sure you want to go to school?" he said seriously, like a concerned parent.
I sighed, " Honestly I really don't want to, but I just want everything to go back to how it was. I'm scared as hell that during Spanish I'll have a nervous breakdown or pass out in the halls, I'm terrified." I said my voice getting small at the end. "But I have to face the music some time right? Might as well do it now. The sooner I get it over with the better."
He got up and squeezed me in a ginormous hug." I'll be right by your side the whole time, you know that right?" he said
I smiled at him as we broke apart " Thanks, is mom ready yet? We're gonna be late" I said
"I'm coming, I'm coming." My mom said as she ran into the kitchen with her large coffee in one hand and car keys in the other. "what's the rush? It's still early. Where's Ryan?"
"No clue where Ry is,but we have to leave now. Do you know what it's like driving in the city?" Aden said
Mom shuddered, "You're right. Ryan Montgomery if by the time I count to three you're not down here we're leaving without you!" She yelled. "One...Two..Thr-" Suddenly Ryan came runnng into the kitchen hair a mess, pants and shirt not buttoned.
"I'm here!" He said breathlessly
I started to laugh, "God, you look like a tornado just swepped you up and placed you here.
He raked his hand throught his VERY messy hair, yawned and said; "So. Tired. Want. Sleep."
"You can sleep in the car. C'mon guys let's go." Mom said and we all followed her to the car.
My heart started hammering in my chest as we neared the schools parking lot. What if this was a bad idea? What if Mike was there? What if he has someone waiting to finish me off? I was about ready to tell my mom to turn around when we pulled into the parking lot.
"And we're here. Have a good day everybody, pay attention during class, don't be rude. Oh, and Ava?" My mom said
"Hm?"
"If you're not feeling well, or for any reason feel like you need to go home, call me."
I put on the brightest smile I could and said, "Thanks mom. Have a good day at work, love you."
"Love you guys. Gotta run, see you all late."
We got out and entered the bustling hive of the parking lot. I took in a whiff of that cigarrette smoke and crushed dreams-high school. We started walking towards the building and I started to calm down; this wasn't so bad. Aden got a few nods from some guys that I didn't know and was pretty sure he didn't either. It was once we passed the people that I did know, that made me want to dissapear.
