I know I'm long overdue for an update, I'm sorry.
I've been binging on fever fics until I remembered that I haven't written one for this book yet, so I started this. This was in my drafts for months but I had no idea how to finish it, until I got sick now. Being in a pained daze from the headache had somehow made my thoughts run wild so I can't just ignore this opportunity lolz. Right now at this moment, all that's left is a shitty cough and cold so I'm faring better, and it's our year-end break out of college, so I'm hoping I'll be able to post my other draft as well before the year ends.
Anyways, I hope you'll like this one, thank you for your continuous support, and happy holidays!

A day after encountering an unexpected raging cyclone, Luffy soon caught a high fever, which was discovered by Usopp during lunch time when he looked for him around the ship because he wasn't seated by the dining table. Everyone was alarmed when he bolted through the kitchen door, carrying an unconscious Luffy with his arm swung over his shoulder, calling for Chopper.
Compared to every life-threatening situation he'd been through, it wasn't that severe at all, just a weird case of the flu. But for someone who barely got sick his entire life, Luffy personally felt like he was dying. It didn't take much time for Chopper to identify the cause of the fever, but he was lacking a few medicinal ingredients needed for the cure. He also found out that Luffy's immune system had been dealing with the flu for quite a while, so the poor boy had a long earful from him about keeping injuries and illnesses to themselves. Seeing that scene though, you vowed to never get on Chopper's angry doctor side.
Fortunately, Brook spotted land the next morning, so Nami decided for the ship to dock at the island and get what they needed, not only medicine but general supplies as well. Everyone had their share of errands, and Chopper wanted to stay at the ship but no one was more well-versed in pharmaceuticals than him.
"I can keep watch," You offered to Chopper, handing him a baby Transponder Snail. "He'll be fine, and I promise I'll call you if something happens to him." Chopper agreed, knowing he could trust you.
With that, everyone left the Sunny and headed out to the island. Since there was no one else who could keep watch, you casted a protective spell on the perimeter of the whole ship, to keep the Sunny off eyes with evil intent. The island did seem peaceful, but you could never be too complacent in the New World.
After casting the spell, you went back to the infirmary, bringing a few books you could read while time passed.
Luffy laid in bed, breathing heavily in his sleep, his brows furrowed with cold sweat breaking in between, and his face was flushed red.
You dragged the spare seat to his bedside and checked on the damp cloth placed on his forehead. As you took it to cool it on the basin of water on the table, the action stirred Luffy awake, his eyes slowly flickering open.
"Oh, sorry for waking you," You placed it back and watched as he tried to see through the disorientation from his sleep. "(Y/n)...?"
"That's right," You smiled as you sat back. He eyed the whole room, so without waiting for him to ask, "Chopper and the others left for the island. We're the only ones here for now."
He glanced back at you, a faint frown forming in between his brows, so you added with a chuckle. "Oh come on, you could barely sit u-"
"N-No, that's...not it," He cut you off. "Does that mean...you stayed behind because of me?"
You knew he'd feel guilty about it. After all, your excitement for adventure was second to him, so the fact that you held yourself back from exploring just so you could watch over him in this vulnerable state was a big deal for him. The guilt would gnaw on his conscience for life, and that's not an exaggeration. As selfish and self-sacrificing as he was, he was too stubborn to understand that an act like this does not make him a burden to you.
