⏰ 4 YEARS LATER

"Mommy look!" The little girl runs into the wooden front door.

Her hands, brown with mud, reveal a pearl that she found in the lake out back. I kneel down to get a better look.

"Wow! That's gorgeous, Jo. Wanna show her?" I point to Katniss in the corner of the kitchen.

Jo runs to her and gets the same reaction that I gave.

"It matches your ring!" She points out.

"It does, huh? How about you go show uncle Peeta and Finnick?"

She dashes outside to meet the boys back at the lake.

After the hospital, we saw more proactivity from Panem than ever before. The rebellion was bigger than we knew. Along with that, we found out the Peeta was not dead, but would never be the same. Snow and the Capitol had brainwashed him so bad that when we got him back, he was unrecognizable.

But worse than that, Zero wasn't there. She was never there, not for long at least. She was killed just to hurt us; out of spite. Nikolaí was never found, and that haunts me today; the not knowing.

As for Katniss and I, in the time before we found Peeta, we got incredibly close. Closer than I could have ever wished for, and she was just as amazing as I thought she was. When we got Peeta back and he wanted nothing but to kill Katniss, she always came to me. Whether it was me physically pushing him off of her, or her crying to me about him at 2am, it was always her and I.

When it became apparent that Peeta would need years of work, I decided to take my chance. 2 years after the end of our Quarter Quell, I asked Katniss to marry me. Her pause before her answer gave me anxiety and it made me second guess, but never regret. Thankfully, she said yes.

We took Jo, Josephine Moxie, as our own. She reminded me a lot of myself in the sense that she was wronged in her childhood and needed someone to teach her love. Her records show that she had a 14 year old older brother named Axel, but they sent her in the tube in place of him, hoping that they'd send her out and escape the games all together. I never searched for her family, because I don't know what I'd do to them if I found them.

Finnick and I are just as close, if not closer, now. He ended up falling in love with Johanna Mason, a tough girl to love. But being her sister in law is a blessing.

Peeta's better now, he's not a Capitol pawn anymore. But he never got back around to loving Katniss how he used to. It was always stand off-ish for them, until recent. They're friends, and I'm okay with that. We even made him Jo's 'uncle.' He says he has no love life, but I have a feeling that he's talking to someone.

As of right now, Jo just turned 10. Finnick, Peeta, Johanna, and Beetee are over to celebrate our little girl.

After all of the trauma and bloodshed that we went through, we turned out okay. But to this day one thing never changes, the odds were never in our favor.

THE END.
