Today was Friday, and arguably the best day of the week, especially for you. Every Friday after school, you would walk home with your friend Mikey, and spend the rest of the day at his house, watching movies and eating junk food. You weren't very popular, but you did have a small circle of friends outside of him who would always try to tell you that high school is the best years of your life, and you should be out doing something fun. To you, "something fun" meant spending time with Mikey, and sometimes his brother Gerard.

Gerard was a year older than you two, but he didn't think of you as little kids, unlike the other seniors. He was quiet, and spent a lot of time in his room, only emerging if Mikey coaxed him out. He also happened to be very cute. You wanted to hold his hand and kiss him softly, watching for the pretty shade of pink that had dusted his cheeks any time he spoke to you. You weren't sure if he was shy around everyone or just you, but it didn't matter. Even if he liked you too, Mikey was your best friend and you couldn't just date his older brother.

The sound of the bell ringing woke you from your daydreams, and you haphazardly tossed your schoolwork into your bag, rushing to your locker to meet Mikey. You heard footsteps stop next to you, but instead of your friend, you were face-to-face with his brother.

"Mikey got picked up for a doctor's appointment a little while ago," he told you, fiddling with the straps of his backpack. "He didn't remember it until today, so he asked if I could walk with you instead? I drove here though, so we wouldn't be walking, and you don't have to if you don't want to. You could come over later once he's home or something, I know adults always say not to get into strangers' cars-"

You stifled a laugh as he rambled, staring at the floor as he went on. "A ride would be great, thank you. And you're not a stranger, you're my friend."

He looked slightly surprised, "We're friends?"

"Do you want to be more than that?" you joked, and his head shot up, eyebrows raising slightly. "What?"

"I'm kidding," you said as you began heading towards the doors of the school, Gerard trailing behind you. You almost missed the faint frown on his face as he mumbled an "oh", and you had to bite back a grin as you walked outside. This could be fun.

Neither of you spoke until you got into the car, and he started apologizing profusely for the mess, which was really only a few snack wrappers and school papers.

The ride to his house was filled with the low hum of the radio, mixed with a slightly awkward conversation about school and other mundane things. You wanted him to open up a bit, maybe get him to touch on a topic he was passionate about. Mikey had told you that he was really into comics, so you ran with that.

"Mikey said you like comics," you said, more as an offhand comment with hopes of him expanding on it.

"He did?" he turned to look at you, a small smile ghosting across his face. You nodded your head and the next thing you knew he was chatting away about a new series he was reading.

It was sweet how happy he was to be talking about something he enjoyed, even more because you were interested in what he had to say.

When you pulled into the driveway, he got out first, scooting around to the passenger side to open the door for you. He blushed that same pretty pink as you smiled at him, following him inside.
