CHAPTER 1: EMBRACING SHADOWS (EDITED)

To villagers he is a demon,
To shinobis he is a genin,
To senseis he is a prodigy among prodigies,
To ANBUs he is the commander,
To the Hokage he is the shadow Hokage,
To the nations, he is the most feared shinobi.
To all he is the All Mighty Kitsune.

Hokage order shinobis,
Commander order ANBUs
Thus making him The Shadow Hokage.

That is who Naruto Uzumaki Namikaze is. He is a 12 year old who has surpassed all Hokages. An enigma. A mystery to all. A mystery deemed to be impossible to solve. He became an ANBU at 6, captain at 7 and commander at 8. He was tasked a long term mission that will end after the Chunin Exams... or longer?

Naruto struggled to catch his breath as the weight of the proposition settled upon him. "You're suggesting that I become an ANBU?" he exclaimed incredulously.

Hiruzen, the Third Hokage, let out a weary sigh. "Indeed, Naruto. Have you considered joining the ranks of the ANBU Black Ops?"

"But, old man, I'm only six years old!" Naruto protested, his voice tinged with frustration.

The Hokage's expression softened, his gaze filled with concern. "Listen, Naruto, I'm growing weary of witnessing the pain and suffering inflicted upon you. As the Hokage, my hands are often tied due to political constraints. But as an ANBU, you could operate in the shadows, safeguarding the village without the burden of constant scrutiny."

Naruto's brows furrowed as he grappled with the implications. "So, you want me to hide my actions, my true identity, behind a mask? To receive praise and respect only when my face is concealed, while enduring the same disdain when it is revealed?"

Hiruzen nodded solemnly. "It's ultimately your decision, Naruto. You can choose when and how to disclose your actions. My primary concern is to protect you from the verbal, emotional, and physical harm you have endured for far too long."

A heavy sigh escaped Naruto's lips as he contemplated the weight of the Hokage's words. "Fine," he finally relented, his voice tinged with resignation.

A small smile tugged at the corners of Hiruzen's lips. "Thank you, Naruto," he replied, his relief evident.
