Daisy isn't anyone, is she? She even once sat with the gang and laughed along their conversation, together with me. Jay knows her. Why would me inviting Daisy to Heesung's birthday party vex him?
"Do you think Jay would mind if I come to his place with Daisy for Heesung's birthday party?"
I finally spill what I've had in mind all along to Jungwon who at the moment is immersed in solving a problem, the breeze cool on the rooftop.
"I thought you guys had a fight." He says without diverting his attention from his book.
My eyes widen a little, "how do you know that?"
Though I tried to catch Daisy at the parking lot thinking her mom would pick her up as usual, she however got on a bus to downtown with the same girls. Assuming they must have hung out, I give up on talking to Daisy yesterday. Considering she'll be back at home late too. I didn't text her.
"Sunoo told me."
I bet now everyone in his group would report him every bit of a thing they find about me. Because to them, I'm Jungwon's girlfriend—thought it's yet to be.
I nod. "Well, we didn't have a fight. We just haven't talked yet—no, she's just not talking to me. She's weird these days."
I exhale heavily afterwards making Jungwon look up. His eyes then exude a concern as he takes in my chagrin.
"I don't think Jay would mind. After all, she's your only company—female one." He opines before focusing back on his book.
I chuckle at his last addition to the words. Maybe Jungwon, too, already thinks I'm his girlfriend.
For me? He's a boyfriend material—for now.Little did we know the sky has turned gloomy with irascible dark clouds, the gust accompanying them as the atmosphere suddenly becomes crispy and dark. The clouds bellow out, the droplets of their tears plopping down on our books as soon as Jungwon and I are alarmed to carry our books and backpacks. Rushing inside the house, the rain falls hard until there's only the noise of pouring left to hear.
"Do you want to go to my room?"
My head snaps at Jungwon stood besides me as we watch the rooftop instantly drenched with hard rainfall. Some of the raindrops smear his hair and some make themselves as little crystals on his face. Pretending to brush off the droplets on me, I contemplate whether to go inside his room or not. The slow bubbling inside my stomach is the sole reason in my indecisive mind.
"The living room would be noisy. It's quiet in my room and I have a study desk there too." He reassures with sincerity which unties any weird feeling in me. I nod eventually.
His room is more spacious than mine. But clearer in sight. There's a huge shelf displaying several trophies from the taekwondo tournaments he used to participate when he was young, some CDs from his favorite musicians and stacks of marvel comic books. Next to it lays a PC table stuck to the wall together with the study table he mentioned. The grey bedsheets are made up neatly, making the room a cozy little abode with serene orange recessed lights. He sits us at the study table and resumes the studying. The space is so quiet except the faint pouring from outside. I'm awkward but I may have thought I can conceal it by sitting silently.
All of a sudden, Jungwon chuckles, his attention on the book doesn't waver.
"What is it?" I ask his side profile of a charming dimple.
Shaking his head, he says, "nothing—did you have the pepper spray all along or did you just buy it when you knew we'd be alone?"
I burst out giggling at his amused voice. The embarrassment is gone by now, but an imperceptible blush still comes up on my face.
"I bought it when I knew we'd be alone—but I'm really sorry, Jungwon. I didn't think of you as anything. I just thought I needed to have one."
Jungwon doesn't react against it. He even seems to liking the idea of me bringing out the spray before him. When the fun settles down, Jungwon finally drops the pen, then leans back at his chair to give his full attention on me.
It is a moment of him scrutinizing at my face to which I dismissively wait for him to say something.
He does so, fluttering my soul.
"Dan, I won't do anything to you without your consent. To be honest, abruptly kissing you that night, I still regret it so much."
"As much as I still remember and love how good my lips felt on yours."| 진심 |
