I nearly had a panic attack when I saw my new home, it was easily twice as big as my old one. It was an old house with character but it was huge, it had balconies and large glass doors and windows. It looked like something out of a magazine. I sat in the car gawking at it not realising my mouth hung open until Lucas sniggered that my mouth was hanging open. Bladud jumped out and went to talk to some people who I assumed were the removal men as they were wandering in and out of the house whilst holding some boxes which contained our stuff. There were a couple of other people who stood around including a very pissed off, heavily pregnant women. A girl whom I assumed to be her daughter looked like she was motioning for her to get back in the car. Lucas jumped out and ran towards the pregnant women who immediately turned around to Lucas, her face went from relief and happiness to downright anger; I could see her yelling at him causing one of the removal men to drift over to them and to hug the women and rub her tummy. She calmed down immediately and walked off to the car dragging Lucas with her whilst trying to untie his hands. Everyone here seemed to know each other and they worked like a well-oiled machine, there seemed to be a sort of affection that everyone shared for one another which I thought was strange but nice. It had only ever really been me and mum so I didn't know what it was like to have other people you cared for. But here it just seemed so natural. Sure there were some units of people who you could tell were family but each unit seemed to click just as well with another.
I got out of the car and wandered closer to the groups of people trying to find where my mum had disappeared to with Bladud when the girl who had been talking to the pregnant women bounded up to me.
"Hi!!! Omg thankgod you're finally here, I feel like I have been slaving away all day, they wanted the house to be perfect for you. I'm Shelby, I'm sisters with that lunatic you were sat next to in the car. Sorry about him, he can be an ass." She smiled at me and gave me a hug, she seemed like the warm touchy feely type and if I knew how to make friends I was sure she would be the easiest person in the world to make friends with. I smiled shyly down at my feet not used all the attention she was giving "My names Feinna" I said.
She beamed at me "God you're so cute, eurgh I wish I had dimples, instead I got a ridiculous amount of freckles and moles. Honestly I swear I drew the short straw in my family, I got the worst skin imaginable and don't scoff at that it's true. Anyway come on before my mother comes and drags me to do something else, god she is so annoying now she is so pregnant her hormones are everywhere-". She continued to ramble on about her family as she pushed me inside. She wanted to show me the bedrooms so that I could pick which one I wanted so she could help me unpack my things. I told her that I didn't need help but she just laughed and said that it was more selfish than anything, it's just so I can see if you have clothes worth borrowing. She was funny and I liked that, I couldn't remember when another person other than my mum had made me laugh like that. I was pretty sure that she must have been told to stick to my side though because she refused to let me out of her sight. Even when I went to the toilet she had stood outside the door waiting for me which was really annoying because honestly I find it too hard to go to the toilet when there is someone in the house let alone when there is someone outside the door.
I chose the room that had large windows that framed the view of the forest and the hills in the background beautifully. The bath was huge and had steps leading up to it. My bedroom had a dark framed king sized bed in it, the walk in closet had double doors leading into, the whole room was ridiculously grand. I felt a pang of longing for my old home and the comforts it provided whilst it was small it was cosy and homely, in this house I felt like you could have two people living in it and wander around for years and still not ever meet each other. Okay well that was a slight exaggeration. I didn't understand how we could afford this, I didn't think being a PA in a law firm would pay this much, I was sure that Bladud had something to do with it and that didn't settle right with me. Mum never accepted money or help off people, she thought it was like receiving charity which she didn't want. She hated people's pity so this house was giving off warning signs that I couldn't understand. Why would she so readily accept Bladuds money even if he was an old friend? And speaking of old friends why hadn't she ever mentioned him before when I teased about not having any? It just didn't add up. I was going to go and interrogate her but then I realised that she was probably with Bladud so I decided to go and talk to her when everyone had left.
