The Horned Seagull Above The Waves

Years flew by across the times, snow grew and melted as flowers bloomed and decayed, as both the prince in the castle and the merman below the waves grew up with graceful aging. Edd still held onto the mirror which seemed to remain as if it were brand new despite it being under the water for many years. He had grown attached to it as it was a trinket to the surface world before he could reach the proper age to go above. Of course he was old enough to go now and would go above the waves with Tom and the mirror in his hands to view the beautiful sky and stars along with passing birds and ships.

Today was one of those days as Edd prepared to visit the surface. Tom was playing Susan which strummed lovely music across the sea hut Edd lived in.

"Ready to go?" Edd asked holding the mirror as Tom stopped playing and rolled his eyes.

"Ugh, fine, just make this trip quick..." he crawled onto Edd's empty palm and the two headed up above. Edd's head went above the waves as the sky was dark and illuminated by the pale blue moon, the stars twinkling like the pearls in the oyster gardens.

"Amazing..." Edd sighed, breath taken away as Tom sipped out of a tiny bottle full of fremented juice. The juice came from the undersea berries which were sweeter than any kind of sugary substance of the human lands but bitter and sour when fremented. The night was quiet and peaceful when Edd suddenly heard a cry of pain from a nearby shore. Tom was startled as he went back into his shell and Edd could feel him shake in his palm. Edd swam over to find a seagull with an injured wing on the shore, feathers bloody and ruffled, fluff on his head looked like horns.

"Should we help him?" Edd asked Tom with worry who shook his head since birds happened to be known to feed on sea creatures, especially crustaceans like Tom.

"Edd id rather not become a bird's feast while my shells still soft."

Edd sighed as he should've expected that response from him as he put the crab down and crawled on the shore to the injured seagull. The poor thing couldn't even stand as Edd found some bandage wrap in an open crate stranded on the shores. He nursed the bird back to health as Tom crawled to Edd's side to see if the seagull wouldn't try pulling any tricks.

"Thank you so much!" The seagull cried of joy when Edd finished wrapping the bandage.

"I couldn't stand to see you suffer, I'm Edd, this is Tom. Whats your name?"

"Im Tord!" The seagull replied. "Why do you call that little brooch Tom?" He asked as Tom's brow furrowed.

"I AM NOT AN ACCESSORY!" He yelled as he scuttled over in anger.

"You look like one!"

"OH WHY YOUUUU-" The two began to fight it out, which was really just Tom pinching Tord. Edd just laughed watching the two act like children as he realized he may have made a new companion...

Time went by as the three became rather close friends, Tord knew so much about the world above as he was able to travel as he pleased and would show Edd pieces of human junk he had which Edd considered a most valuable treasure. Eventually, a very special day would happen on the surface above the merman's home...
