"What's your excuse?" asked a deep voice.

Jungwon looked up, but he had already recognized the black and emerald green robes.

Oh boy

"Huh" started Jungwon, really not knowing how to handle it.

Yes, he was finally alone with Jay, plus it was the middle of the night, so no one would ever interrupt them. Yes, it was the perfect occasion to ask him all the questions that had been haunting him for four years.

But at the same time, being there, with Jay was extremely intimidating.

"That's a pretty good excuse, I see you came prepared" said Jay, always so calm it was unsettling.

"It's just that, uh, well" continued Jungwon, before he decided to speak the truth. "I couldn't sleep."
"And that's why you found yourself illegally wandering in the castle?" asked Jay.
"I couldn't sleep because of you" added Jungwon with a dead serious face, his eyes planted in Jay's.

~

"You. Did. WHAT?" asked Niki as soon as Jungwon told him he had talked to Jay.

The two friends were in their bedroom, fortunately alone. This morning, the Gryffindor quidditch team would be evaluating potential players, so pretty much everyone was outside already.

"Well, I couldn't sleep, so I got up and started walking around the castle" started Jungwon.
"That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard, and I talk to Sunoo a lot" commented Niki.
"I know, I know" replied Jungwon. "Look I'm not proud of it, but do you want to complain or do you want to know what happened?"

That did the trick. Niki closed his mouth and nodded for Jungwon to continue his story.

"I really don't know why I did that, the only thing I know is that I was walking and Peeves found me" continued Jungwon, still hearing his funny voice. "So I obviously ran away and hid in a classroom."
"You are aware that he flies, right?" asked Niki.

Jungwon just gave him a side annoyed look.

"Shall I just stop the story?" he asked.

As Niki stayed silent, Jungwon nodded.

"Fortunately, Peeves didn't tell a teacher about me. He told Jay" explained Jungwon.
"Wait, what was Jay doing at night wandering in the halls like that?" asked Niki. "Cause you were being careless, but why was he out of his bed?"

Jungwon frowned.

"I... I hadn't thought about that to be honest" admitted Jungwon. "What was he doing?"

Niki raised his shoulders, he didn't know either.

"In any way, he asked me why I was there, and I first I panicked" continued Jungwon.
"I bet you panicked so hard" commented Niki.
"Yeaaaaah I'm not even going to deny that" whispered Jungwon. "I told him that I couldn't sleep."
"And he bought that?" asked Niki in disbelief.
"At first he didn't. He was like "what the fuck are you talking about" said Jungwon.
"But then he did?" asked Niki, getting impatient.
"Well, no" said Jungwon. "He thought I was joking around and scolded me."

"Intense" whispered Niki.

Jungwon and Niki had already heard Jay getting angry and scolding a second year this week. No need to say that no one wanted to switch places with said second year. Jay had a wide range of facial expressions, and most of them were pretty intimidating.

"Yeah, I couldn't say anything else. He didn't let me" cotninued Jungwon.
"That's unfair!" replied Niki. "Okay, you weren't supposed to be outside of the dorm, but he could at least let you explain why you weren't, right?"
"But it's okay actually" said Jungwon.

Niki frowned.

"How could that be okay?" he asked.
"Cause Jay gave me detention" said Jungwon, a bright smile on his face.

~

"Go Beomgyu!" shouted a tall boy next to Niki.

The quidditch pitch was crowded, as it always was during selections. Some people were there to support their friends trying to get into the team, others were there to judge the potential of their rival team.
Niki and Jungwon had decided to come support Beomgyu, their roommate. He really wanted to be selected as a beater, but he said he would be okay playing other positions if needed.

Niki was pretty enthusiastic. He and his neighbor were cheering for Beomgyu pretty loudly. At some point, Jungwon heard Niki asking said guy his name. He wasn't paying attention to the answer however.

Ever since Jay had given him detention, all of his attention had been given to him.

Don't get him wrong, he knew he had been stupid, wandering at night like that, but he was happy nonetheless. As Jay had found him yesterday night, he had been taken by surprise and didn't even know how to react.
However, now he knew when and where he would meet Jay next.

This evening, at eight, in the potions room.

Jungwon didn't know why Jay had chosen this particular place, but he kinda liked the idea. He loved that place after all.

Plus, he had the whole day to get mentally prepared for the meeting, well, the detention.

As expected, Niki didn't really approve Jungwon's behavior, but he understood that his best friend really needed answers to be able to move on.
Niki's fear was that Jungwon might not want to move on after hearing said answers. He had kept that fear to himself though. Jungwon was already troubled and Niki wanted to show his support the best he could.

Jungwon was thinking about Jay, but he saw how well Beomgyu did during the selection and was extremely proud of him when they announced he would be part of the team.
After the selection, a huge crowd of red and gold made its way back to the castle and settled in the Great Hall. They were all hungry and wanted to celebrate their freshly selected teammates.

Jungwon laughed and cheered with everyone, letting his Jay thoughts aside for a moment. He had planned to spend the afternoon with Sunoo, who had agreed to coach him for the date, uh, detention.

~

Jungwon felt his heart trembling, even though that sounded impossible. He took a deep breath and opened ip the potion classroom's door.

Jay was already there, waiting for him.
