Jungwon felt his heart trembling, even though that sounded impossible. He took a deep breath and opened ip the potion classroom's door.

Jay was already there, waiting for him.

Jungwon swallowed his saliva with more difficulty than usual. Jay was just stunning and now that Jungwon was aware he had a crush on this boy, well, he looked at him differently.

He paid more attention to little details of the Slytherin's features. Well, he had always looked for those, but now he was conscious he did, if that made any sense.

"You're right on time" commented Jay, still looking at his parchment.
"Of course" replied Jungwon.

I would never be late for this.

"I had the impression you were the late kind of student" commented Jay, finally looking up.

His gaze met Jungwon's and the latter's body instantly burnt from inside.

Did he just use incendio on me?

Jungwon had to concentrate really hard to be able to answer Jay.

"Actually, I'm usually late because of Niki" he explained, chuckling. "He always forgets something in our dorm, or looses whatever we need for the next lesson."
"Ugh" sighed Jay.

Jungwon's chuckle disappeared. He didn't like how Jay had judged Niki. He didn't know him after all.

"Tell me about it" added Jay, to Jungwon's suprise. "Hoon does the same with me, and it's horrible."
"Hoon?" asked Jungwon, intrigued.
"Yeah, Sunghoon" explained Jay. "He's my step brother, and also in Slytherin."
"Oh right, the Prince" commented Jungwon.

Jay frowned.

"The Prince?" he asked, half surprised, half laughing.
"Yeah, sorry" replied Jungwon, embarrassed. "That's how Gryffindor girls call him."
"Wow" commented Jay.

"I think it's because of last year's Yule Ball?" continued Jungwon. "Apparently he danced extremely well and they're still talking about it."

Jay laughed out loud.

"But don't tell him I told you okay?" asked Jungwon. "My friends would kill me."
"Oh don't worry, his ego is big enough as it is, no need to boost it with a title such as "the Prince"" said Jay.

The two both laughed together.

"So you are usually late too?" asked Jungwon, trying to continue their talk.
"In my first three years, yes" said Jay. "But then I kinda scolded Hoon and now if he's late, well, he's late alone. I didn't want to be late anymore. Plus I'm a Prefect now, so I really have to do things right."

As soon as Jay said the word Prefect, the two boys remembered why they were here.

~

Candles had melted quite a lot since Jungwon's arrival. They reflected their light on the thousand flasks and bottles on the shelves. However, Jungwon couldn't care less about the potion ingredients right now.

He was focused on a more important matter: trying to talk to Jay again.

It amazed him how they had talked casually at first. He had felt at ease!
As if they had never stopped being friends.
As if years of Jay ignoring him had never happened.

Nonetheless, Jungwon was there for detention, so it seemed only logical that it wouldn't be just talking and laughing all along.

So Jungwon was cleaning every flask and every bottle of the room while Jay casually wrote what seemed to be a Charms homework.

Jungwon knew he hadn't an infinite time here with Jay. Eventually Jay would call it a night and his opportunity would be gone.

He had spent the afternoon preparing with Sunoo, but things had taken such an unpredictable turn as he arrived that he was quite lost regarding what to do next.

He really wanted to bring up how Jay had abandoned him as they were children, but he had to do it gently, right?

Actually, no, he could act pissed, after all Jay hadn't treated him well.

But he didn't want to.

"So, where did you grow up?" asked Jungwon, glancing at Jay quickly.

The latter looked shocked for half a second. Or maybe it was only the reflection of the candles' light in his eyes.

"Oh, uh, small suburb in Bristol" replied Jay, speaking extremely fast. "But I don't really want to talk about it."

Of course.

"Sorry I asked" said Jungwon, even though he was feeling more disappointed than sorry.
"Just painful memories" whispered Jay.

Jungwon was convinced Jay had said that for him, so he decided not to built upon it. Instead, he kept cleaning a bottle that contained a really weird and disgusting phosphorescent mushroom.

Painful memories? What did he mean by that?
He looked happy in my memories.

What if something happened in his home?

Jungwon wanted to talk again, but after the last attempt, he didn't really know how to do it. As he was busy trying to figure a way, he heard Jay putting his feather down.

"I think we can call it a night" said Jay.

Jungwon felt his heart sinking. He hadn't had the courage to talk to Jay about their childhood. On the other hand, Jay had asked him not to, right?

"It's kinda funny that you are the first person I gave detention to" mumbled Jay.
"What?" asked Jungwon, unsure he had heard right.
"Oh nothing" said Jay.

Jungwon frowned. There was definitely something underneath everything.

"I kinda had fun" admitted Jay, looking into Jungwon's eyes.
"Well, scrubbing weird stuff ou of other weird stuff wasn't the best thing to do on a Sunday night, but I liked the rest" said Jungwon.

Jay smiled, and Jungwon had to control himself not to sigh.

Come on Jungwon, do something.

Anything.

Just. Do. Something.

"So, hum, can uh, can I ask you something?" asked Jungwon, apparently not able to speak better than that.

Jay nodded, surprised.

"I-I also want to be Prefect next year, and I was wondering if you would be okay to give me some pointers" said Jungwon, shyly.

"You know you don't get to choose, right?" asked Jay.
"I know, but they do choose students for certain qualities, so I wanted to know a little bit more" explained Jungwon.

Jay seemed overwhelmed by the prospect of spending time with Jungwon. There was something in his eyes, Jungwon knew he would say yes.
It was a little sparkle, but it meant the world to Jungwon.

The Gryffindor saw Jay lightly smiling and felt intense joy spreading from his heart through his whole body.

Jay took a deep breath and his expression changed. He became serious again.

"I'm sorry, I can't really do that" he said, with a weird voice. "But you can ask Christopher, maybe?"

WHAT?
