Chapter 34 - Texts Again

By the time we were done eating, we were all stuffed like turkeys on Thanksgiving and Jack has made, at least, seven innuendos. All in all, everything was back to normal. I had my two best friends by my side, I was in my favorite pizzaria in Manhattan and life was good again.

"Jack," I spoke up.

"Hm?" He hummed, stirring what was left of his Sprite lazily with a straw.

"We need to talk about this, don't change the subject, okay?"

Instantly, he tensed, possibly assuming I would ask about the other thing. The thing I'd rather wasn't true. The thing with him and I.
Jack didn't say 'okay', but I surged forward anyway.

"Are you really joining the French army?" I asked, sadness seeping into my voice.

He visibly relaxed. "Ye-N-I'm not sure," He finally answered, frowning slightly.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, I don't really want to die. I'm not particularly scared of death but I also don't particularly want to get a death-sentence . . . I don't think I'm joining the French army. Screw that. I'd definitely die, since I have absolutely no experience whatsoever, and my fighting skills are only limited to if-necessary hand combat and knowing-how-to-fire-a-gun-but-not-being-able-to-shoot-the-bullseye," Jack explained to us. Or, more like, to me. Aria was as confused as ever. "I'm considering getting into the Russian military school, though. I mean, attempting to get in. Its hard. I have to be smart enough and capable enough to get in. Fortunately, my dad was part of the military in his younger days, so I have a chance, and our family comes from a long line of military people,"

All this was quite overwhelming for me. Military school, Russian, Jack wanting to get in. Hell, I miss those days where he'd tickle me out of nowhere, giggle insanely and run off. Mind you, he was sixteen back then.

I couldn't stop him now, though. Jack was on a roll.

"And because I have a Russian passport as well as an American one, I can do the test to get into the school. Oh, just imagine me as a secret spy, Rosie," His green eyes sparkled as he said those words, a grin on his face. "It would be awesome. Just . . . Never repeat those words to anyone, alright?" He suddenly turned serious.

I nodded. "Yes, sir." I saluted, half-jokingly.

Aria seemed intrigued, too, at this point. "Wait, Jack, you can speak Russian?" She raised an eyebrow.

Jack smirked. "Of course. Along with French, Italian, German, Spanish and Swedish. I actually only learned Swedish to prove a point, win a bet and understand Pewdiepie when he swears or speaks in Swedish."

Aria shook her head. "Sometimes I wonder why you bother to hang out with us," She sighed. "We're not really interesting,"

Jack smiled at her. "Oh, but you are. Your drama-filled, yet boring as hell, lives intrigue me and entertain me in the same time-" Jack and Aria got immersed in their conversation, and I suddenly turned into the third wheel.

Time to annoy my other friends, yay!

Me: hi

Me: I'm bored

Me: I would text Alec but I know he'd only suggest eating pie

Me: that boy is obsessed with pie, geez

Me: I would also text Alyssa or Ashton but I sort of miss our meaningless conversations
