Chapter 12 - Fun
Present ~
After our little . . . moment, Luke and I stuffed our faces with snacks and watched a random black and white movie on the old TV.
Soon after the movie, we went to sleep, him on the couch and me on the bed. I actually wouldn't have minded if we shared the same bed because it was big enough for the both of us and I always end up sleeping on the edge of the bed anyway, even if I was alone. My eyes fluttered open and I instantly closed them again. The light! It burns! I sat up, stretched out my arms and yawned. I reopened my eyes again, blinking a couple of times to adjust myself to the bright room.
By the looks of it, Luke was still asleep on the couch, lightly snoring away. I threw off the covers, slipped out of the bed and tiptoed to the bathroom to brush my teeth (they had new complimentary toothbrushes and toothpaste, fortunately). Despite it being new, I was still a little disgusted, so, I brushed my teeth quickly and combed my hair with my fingers.
After deciding I looked presentable enough, I left the bathroom. Luke was already standing by the mini fridge, having a conversation with someone on the phone. I hid beside the wardrobe, listening in on what he was saying. Why? Because I'm a strange and curious person.
"Yes, Ashton, we stayed in the same motel room." I heard Luke sigh in annoyance. "No, I promise I didn't try anything. We didn't sleep on the same bed, I slept on the couch. Um, I don't know if we'll be coming back right now, it depends on Rose." At that moment, I walked out and smiled at him.
Luke smiled back. "Yeah, I've got to go, Ash. Bye." He hung up and handed me the phone. At first, I was confused but then I noticed that it was my phone.
"Ashton called. Do you want to go home now or . . .?" Luke asked, keeping his distance from me.
"Can we go to the beach?" I questioned back, a hopeful smile on my face.
Luke grinned. "Of course we can. I'll just get cleaned up and we'll go."
"Yes! The last time I've been to the beach was when I was fourteen. I miss it." I told him after fist pumping the air in my excitement. I was such a dork.
He nodded. "Then, we'll stop at the mall before we go to the beach." He stated and quickly walked into the bathroom before I could reply.
So, I waited until he was done in there before I confronted him. When Luke finally walked back out, I shot my question at him.
"Why are we going to the mall?"
"You haven't been to the beach in three years, might as well swim there as well." He shrugged and stood in front of me.
"Wait, you mean-"
"Yeah, I'll buy you a swimming suit since it looks like you didn't bring your wallet along on this little trip." He said casually.
My eyes widened. "No, Luke. I can't-"
"I insist." He smiled.
It sounds weird to hear him say, 'I insist'. The phrase seemed so old fashioned and . . . what's the word? Classy. I'm not sure why but it just is.
I scratched the back of my neck, unsurely. "I don't know, Luke. I really don't want to bother you or something."
"Rose. Rose, Rose, Rose," He shook his head, that annoyingly attractive smile still on his face. Curse him and his stupid cute face. "You never bother me. Not even once. You make me happy, Rose. It seems silly since we practically just met but-"
This time, I cut him off. My mind suddenly went back to a few months ago. The boy at the party. I'm not entirely why that event came to mind but when he said that, it was like the memory just sprang into my mind. "We didn't. You're lying." I remembered.
