Chapter 14 - Paintball

At 6 PM sharp, Ashton dropped us off at our local paintball place. He decided not to go with us because he said he had some things to talk about with Calum.

"Drive safe, okay?" I hugged my brother briefly. I'm usually not the overprotective kind of sister but I do have my moments, especially since I haven't seen him in ages.

He pulled back and nodded, a smile on his face. "Will do. By the way, I called Michael to join your game."

"W-What?" I stuttered out, "Why?"

"Because two against three is hardly any fun. Later, sis. Have fun you two!" He grinned and stepped back in his car.

"Bye." I muttered and followed Alyssa into the building.

"Yo, Irwin!" Alec called when he saw me.

"Hey, guys." Alyssa did some sort of handshake with Avalon.

"Evening, Rosemary." Caspar smirked at me, shaking my hand formally.

I rolled my eyes. "It's Rosetta. Not Rosemary."

He shrugged. "I'm calling you Rosemary."

"Cas, are you flirting with our new friend?" Avalon elbowed her brother.

"No. I'm just being super friendly. We might become close friends, but we will never have that kind of relationship. No offence, Mary." Caspar told his sister, slinging an arm around my shoulders.

"It's just Rose, you dimwit." I mumbled because, come on, there isn't even an 'm' in my name!

"I like her. She's sassy." Ava grinned.

"I like her, too. " A voice spoke up. "Hello, peasants." Michael strolled up to us, his famous smirk on his face.

Alyssa ignored his presence, she started a conversation with Alec about their Science project, instead.

"We should get into teams," Caspar suggested before Avalon could rip Michael's arms out of it's sockets, because she looked ready to pounce on him. "Dibs on Mary." He added.

"What?" I blurted out, surprised. Why would he want me on his team?

"Who's Mary?" Michael scrunched his nose up in confusion, cutely.

"Rose. Duh. Now get into teams." Cas rolled his eyes.

"I'm with Ava." Alyssa stepped next to her friend.

"Alec's with me. We're Team 1." Avalon pulled Alec by his shirt to stand beside her. He looked reluctant but obeyed anyway.

"That leaves me with Rosie and the Caraway." Michael smiled and stood beside me.

Avalon clasped her hands together. "Perfect! Cas, go sign us up, pay for the fee and . . . let the battle begin." She smirked.

"Aye, aye, Kenzie," Caspar saluted. "Come on, Lyssa. I've never played paintball in Sydney before, despite us living here for 90% of our lives, I need some advice . . ." He said, sheepishly.

Alyssa smiled. "Alright then. Let's go." She grabbed his wrist, dragging the boy to the counter.

"Kenzie?" Michael asked Avalon.

She tensed up. "Mackenzie. My middle name. Only my brother calls me that so don't you even try." Ava warned.

He held his hands up in surrender. "Just asking, geez. What's your problem?"

"What's my problem? I'll tell you what my problem is you son of a-" Avalon advanced towards Michael but, right at that moment, Alyssa looked our way. Her eyes widened and she quickly ran over to hold Avalon back.
