Chapter 15 - Surprises

The next day, I woke up late. Again. I had to quickly pick my outfit, brush through my unruly hair, brush my teeth, take an extremely quick and cold shower and do other stuff that usually takes me forever to do but takes a minute when my brother is yelling at me, like how that one P.E coach would.

"HURRY, HURRY, HURRY!" Ashton shouted. "IN THE CAR! IN THE CAR!" Despite his slight illness, Ash insisted on driving me to school and yelling to get me to move faster.

"I'm in the car, now step on it!" I yelled back at him. Let's see how he likes getting shouted at.

Ashton backed out of the driveway as fast– but safely– as he could and accelerated our way to school.
It took us about five minutes or more to get there. When we did, I jumped out, bid my brother a hurried farewell and ran.

The exact second I stepped foot into school, the bell signalling first period rang. I cursed under my breath and ran through the hall to get to my locker.

I saw Maggie and Alyssa waiting there impatiently, glaring at me as I ran towards them. They didn't seem at all fazed by the bell ringing.

"Rose Irwin, where the bloody hell were you?!" Alyssa barked as I opened up my locker and exchanged my bag for my History book.

"Slept in by accident. Sorry. Class. Come on." I told them in between breaths. Oh, don't look at me like that, it was a lot of running and rushing for 8 a.m!

Lyssa peered at my book. "I have History, I'll walk you there," She linked my arm with hers and started to speed walk. "See you in D.T, Mags!" She called over her shoulder.

"Yeah. Okay, bye. See you then!" She hollered at our retreating figures.

"Miss Irwin, Miss-" The teacher started.

"Jackson." I mumbled almost inaudibly, but Aly heard and chuckled a little.

"Sorry, we're late. Rose's uh, brother's friend's cousin's nephew's aunt's friend's pet goldfish got into a car accident. It was tragic." Alyssa fake-sobbed, making the whole class snicker and chuckle.

Miss Whats-Her-Face scowled. "Go take a seat." She spat, annoyed.

I did as she said without another word, but unfortunately, Alyssa took the lone window seat in the back whilst I was left with . . . a seat next to Luke Hemmings. Oh, joy! Please, note my sarcasm.

'At least, you could ask him if he sent that message yesterday. It might've been a misunderstanding.' My subconcious told me, but I really doubt it was a 'misunderstanding'.

I slipped in the chair, opened up my textbook and managed to smile at him.

"Hi," I whispered.

He continued to write down notes without a mere glance at me. Okay, cool.

"Heeeey," I poked his arm lightly.

He blatantly ignored me.

"L-Luke?" I questioned, softly, my voice cracking. Damn you, voice.

Finally, he glanced at me, his eyes soft for a second before they grew harsh again. "What do you want?" Luke sighed and faced the board once more.

"Why are you ignoring me?" I frowned.

"I'm not," He grumbled, gripping his pencil as if it killed his dog or something.

"You are. And, did you send that reply to me last night?" I crossed my arms, a little done with all his bullshit.
