We decided on the trio, meeting hands together before standing above a two story house. Vines have taken over, mother nature taking home in claiming the house with tall weeds and dead flowers. The only noise was the wind slapping each grass, and creaking the house's aged ancient wood, desolate by the chimes of a wind bell.

I found the dusty window in the back had been unlocked, leaving me to open the door with my hands. I cleaned the window, giving Kaede a thumbs up. Kokichi gripped my arm hard, meeting my worried eyes.

"Your a great detective, okay?" He whispered into my ear, before Slipping inside. His writhe, small body hid through, before making a clear. We got to work, scanning through bookcases for sign of life.

Eventually, we found into his room. It was the only thing hoarded, a razor on the nightstand. There was a clown nose, squished to death. Kokichi noted how the closet was just black shirts, and how some seemed...dirty. he kept searching and found a small case under his bed.

It was a birth certificate, fake ids, things like that. Some old high school pictures I pocketed with the other's, incase we needed more witnesses.

Kokichi left the room to go search the living room and the bathroom, expecting to see more blood. I let him go, finding another case full of one model. She was Sayaka, a pop idol. He seemed pretty obsessed with her, in the gross way.

My mind didn't slip until I left the room, being met with an ungodly sight.

"Why hello there intruder, mind to tell me where's your PERMIT? Or will I be obligated to... slash him."

My rage kicked up as my hand instantly reached my gun, but I stopped to think logically. How can I calm him down, just enough for him to not point his knife to my assistants neck. Who, for once, seemed a bit scared.

Kouru gripped the knife tighter, pressing it enough that I could see blood slip out. I raised up my hands in a "I'm gunless!" Position, stepping away to my knees. I then started to pull from my mind, shaking my head.

"I came here because your clown mates miss you. Remember shortie? He wants to know, and... I mean no harm. We just got curious waiting for you... I'm a very nosy person."

He pressed the knife closer, frown only gratifying before he slammed Kokichi over, who slammed his head against a table and passed out. I screamed, and ran towards him. Kouru laughed, turning to kick me in the stomach.

"You think your not here for the murder? Then think again. I know you."

"My uncle has the case, and he doesn't love me enough to give me important cases. My parents don't, he doesn't, that purple haired boy is all I have!" I lied, punching the ground. Hopefully enough time for the cops to rush in.

If kaede even called them.

The clown smirked, grabbing a lock of hair and holding the knife. This one was different, yet the same brand. How many do they even hand ou-

"FREEZE!" Kaede jumped out, gun held against the man's head, perfect timing. I shoved him back, loading my gun out and aiming it. The officer handcuffed him, as much as he resisted, I only pointed.

"Kill me then, go on. Do it. I know you wanna, eh? Your just like every officer, weak, frail, helpless..."

A few more officers stormed in, helping the scene. Those words repeated in my head, holding onto my kicked in stomach. Kaede held my shoulder, patting my head.

"Shuichi, listen. Your really touch to go in on your own, as cold as you can be, you can still be sweet! Don't listen to so grumpy clown!" She reassured me, yet I didn't feel like a detective. I felt like some bystander, watching his partner's bloody neck and passed out. Thankfully, the damage wasn't terrible.

I don't know how I could handle that. Kokichi stirred awake in my bed, since he, quote on quote, "wasn't too banged up for hospital bills", end quote, Uncle.

I laughed at it now, seeing him wake. He rubbed his head, sitting up. "Man, that clown was grumpy..."

I hugged him, overcome with emotion. It was unprofessional, stupid, dumb of me to-

"Shuichi? Wow.... heyy..." an embarrassed voice patted my neck, soothing me. I let out the deepest sigh for the week, a smile meeting my face.

"Glad to see your okay, partner."

"So NOW your callin' me partner? I see." He Retorted, punching my shoulder weakly. He felt his bandaged head, then his neck. A flinch met him. "Wow, he really could of killed me..."

"This is why detective work is hard. I understand if you'd want to quit, Kokichi. I've almost died many times, to where I don't value my life. I don't value anything, really. If I could, I'd run away. You have a choice, and I suggest you d-" this time, he grabbed my face, forcing me to look at him.

He shook his head, frowning. "No. Don't say that, idiot! I'm your partner, and you can't just say that! I won't just leave cuz of one scratch, I'm tougher then steel! And stop being so pessimistic, it's not a hot look."

"I thought you said my gloominess was endearing and sexy." I replied, laughing.

He muffled a complaint, shoving me away. "Tsk, yeah! Now lemme sleep, im tired!"

That's when he first slept in my bed. I laid in my couch, finally going to bed with a hopeful... bright emotion. Even when it was on a shitty dollar store couch, my heart simmered knowing Kokichi was okay, and that he wasn't going to leave me.

He'd never leave me, right?
