My mind stayed on Maki, and the person who mentioned her name. I made sure to put it down in my notebook, incase I needed it.
On my way home, I laid in my bed. Realizing that I had my first kiss. It must of been in the heat of the moment, and meant nothing. My mind does wonders to cognitive imagery only doing worse, my overthinking mind running miles into alleyway to alleyway. Getting lost in the city lights, blinded by red and blue. Potential bright yellow police tape, blinding me.
My overthinking sense usually helped me out of things, but I settled on not bringing it up with Kokichi again. It was for the better, since I was a hopeless romantic.
I was glad Kokichi was there to keep me from thinking to hard. My uncle once said, "Son, you think so much you might as well burst a vessel and not notice it."
I then remembered that one lead from the cold case. The person who mentioned Maki seemed to be close friends in high school with her. The officers said it wasn't concrete because of "previous suspicion" my mind only wandered however, how right the man was.
This curiosity lead me to call Kokichi at three am, staying on call discussing this. "Well does this mean that bozo has a criminal record?! That's dumb! The case could of been solved lickity split if they believed him!"
I agreed with him, hoping that because of the sighting and reveal of her name, it would be easier. But it seemed more like the media cared about Rantaro being safe then the assassin herself.
The person who called her out had a username, "universechoseme69", who commented on Reddit about her being his high school crush. The post blew up, with thousands claiming its fake, others chiming in nostalgia of high school. Eventually, the media got the attention of the news, before it became a huge hoax.
Then, the account was essentially abandoned. The last post claiming up and down it was true, before more people shut it down. Then, the whole thing was forgotten.
"I bet he has YouTube or something too, Shuichi! Maybe then we'll find where he is." Kokichi helped me search on the most prominent social media's, before finding a video marked on YouTube as "how I got kicked off reddit for telling the truth (universechoseme69)
On it, was a really buff man who claimed he was working to be an astronaut, and his whole channel was that. Or just dumb story time videos and such. Kaito Momota.
His last video was a moving in vlog, showing a restaurant he goes to. He states that he'd probably live there, noting that it would be someplace he'd visit frequently. He only mentioned the city, which left me an address.
Kokichi then got quiet, before I asked. "What's up?"
"We'll have to take a train there, y'know! And then what, Shumai??? What if he's not there anymore??"
"We'll just have to hope, then." I solemnly responded, begging that the trip wasn't too long and I'd have to get a hotel service.
"Y'know the trip from here, to there, is like....6 hours long? What if we have to go to a lovers hotel, and have one bed?! BOSS!!!"
"w-what?! No, that'll never happen!"
....
It did.
Kokichi was spinning around me, bragging that he was right. I held onto my backpack, realizing that I'd have to spend the night at some random bed next to my assistant.
"We'll let's get it over with, then! Find the nearest one to the shop, then wait the next day and question!" His endearing excitement was the only thing keeping me tall, dragging me off with his phone, searching every nearby area.
Thankfully, there was a room with two beds. Spaced out so the awkwardness wasn't too unbearable. If my uncle knew about this, he'd likely laugh his ass off.
I let him strip for the shower, facing away until he stepped in with a towel. He packed some clothes, knowing it would happen. I however, would just have to keep my clothes on with some cologne sprayed over.
I wrote down my info in my notepad app, where I usually keep it. Kaito must be somewhere, and I swear I'll find him. If I do, maybe he can do something about Maki getting arrested.
"There's probably dead roaches in there." A loud sigh stopped me from my thoughts, as Kokichi walked out the shower. His body was soaked with water droplets, smaller then his usual baggy work clothes showed. He grabbed a black hoodie from the pile, tossing it my way.
"I packed extra, since I knew you'd be all confident to assume we wouldn't be at the station. It's baggy, so it'll fit Shumai."
He then turned, grabbing his own clothes and strutting into the bathroom to change. I stared at the hoodie and the fluffy pijama pants, oversized enough for me. I was really glad he was here, or else I'd sleep in my uncomfortable sweaty clothes...
I sniffed it, incase it was dirty. It smelled like laundry detergent, nothing special. I decided to change right then and there, since I didn't wanna impede my time.
Kaede called me after that, and I answered almost lightning fast. "Hey Kaede, how are you?"
"Well you seem all calm and chipper. How's the case been? Is Kokichi there to rip the phone out of your hands?"
"The case is gonna be solved eventually, or else. A-and uhm yeah, sorry about that last call... he got all upset about us."
That must of peaked her attention, because she gasped so loud I moved the phone away from my ear.
"For real?! OH my God, does he like you?? Are you two dating??"
"Well he kissed me after that, but... I didn't kiss back. I mean, I don't wanna ruin all the hard work by a relationship...and I bet that kiss was just in the moment. It's not like I don't like him... but I don't think I roll that way." I explained my thoughts, biting the irritating way my hands would fiddle at the idea, and my mind wouldn't bear the dating idea.
"Oh. Well, I'm sure it's fine then." Kaede dismissed it almost quickly, coughing into the phone before excusing herself. I wondered why she seemed so... off-put by it.
I checked my phone over, before hearing a loud vibration. On the other bed, it was a checkered case. Assuming it was a spam call, I grabbed the phone. My heart sunk. The picture was Rantaro in some model magazine poster, and the profile name was "avocado bae <3"
I let it go to the last ring before it stopped. When did they become a thing? And why did it bug me so much?
Kokichi waddled in, slamming into the bed and stretching his limbs all over, before thrusting into the sheets and yawning. "Well, I think it's time to hit the hay, boss! See you in the morning!"
I nodded in response, leaning to turn the middle light off. The room was filled with silence, other then the chirring of the ventilator, the bed sheets shifting, and an occasional car driving by. I was welcomed by these sounds, before snoring met me.
Turning over on my side, I had a good look of Kokichi. The moonlight Illuminated his figure, closed shut eyes and a small snore. His hair artfully twisted from the bed, fluffing out from his side into the pillow, the other held tight to his chest. He seemed to peaceful, and innocent. When he usually was chaotic, lying at times, and dramatic always.
I tore my eyes away, gulping. Hopefully my insomnia will spare me. Kokichi seemed so pretty in the blue hue, even in a comfortable state. Compared to his at sometimes professional faking at his experience, he seemed real comfy.
No wonder Rantaro and him are dating.
They both were attractive, hands all over eachother. Rantaro was the right guy for him, and I'd say I was happy for them... but a deep, slimy selfishness ran through me. I wanted him as my ASISSTANT. Not to ever be replaced, to always stand by my side.
