Chapter 49

Marcy sat across from Asina at the restaurant she'd chosen. "Hey?"

"Hello." Asina was starving so she looked over the menu.

Marcy took off her sunglasses and crossed her legs. "We've got to talk."

"After we eat?" Asina hoped.

"Sure." Marcy shrugged easily.

"Good."

Mercedes set the shoes she was getting beside her and tried on another pair. "We've got to talk."

Chlöe looked at her benignly. "Okay. What about?"

"Excuse me, ladies." A store clerk came over to whisper. "I just wanted to let you know there's a sale going on. 30% off all heels."

Mercedes lit up. "Yes!"

Chlöe loved the notion as well. "Yay!"

The clerk smiled before leaving them to their shopping.

"It's so hot in here." Pía panted.

Rose sprayed her plants, knowing it was going to get hotter in the summer months. "Yes. It gets worse."

"How?!"

Rose giggled. "This is Southern California. It gets quite hot June through August and it gets even hotter in here."

Pía needed a breather.

Rose smirked. "We've got to talk."

Asina was appeased for the moment. "Ahh!"

Marcy smirked. "Better?"

"Much."

"We still need to talk."

"What about?"

"You're my best friend but I haven't been being a good friend to my other ones."

Asina's grey eyes widened. "You're the perfect friend!"

"Not lately. And that was because I was so wrapped up in you. Yes, I haven't seen you in years but they're still my friends. I shouldn't have dropped them like that."

Asina nodded. "You are a good friend."

"Thank you. Now tell me your feelings."

"My feelings?" Asina cocked her head.

Marcy nodded. "Yes. Regarding me. It doesn't matter what they are. I'll always be there for you."

"Thank you." Asina smiled. "I feel like you are the bestest friend I'll ever have."

Marcy almost teared up, loving that. "And there's no romance in those feelings at all?"

Asina double blinked.

Marcy smirked widely. I knew those two were reaching!

Asina frowned as she bowed her head. "You are married."

"I am."

"Nothing will become of us."

Marcy closed one eye, confused as hell. "Huh?"

"I must admit that I am jealous of your spouses. Especially your wife."

"Why?" Marcy opened her eye and tilted her head.

"Because they have you." Asina lifted her head.

Marcy wasn't always swift when it came to people's romantic feelings toward her but she wasn't that damn stupid. "Oh."
