Another Chance | Aki x Reader

27: "Do you think you are worthy of making a contract with me?"

Aki opens the door to his apartment. He smiles at the thought of kissing you and the possibility of being able to do that again in the future.

"Where have you been? It's pretty late, don't ya think?"

Aki rolled his eyes, 'Why do you care, Denji? You're not my dad to be asking me those kinds of questions."

"I just ask cause you are never home late unless you went out with someone, which almost never happens." Denji mocks, "Were you out with y/n?"

Aki scoffs, "All of a sudden, you care about my life."

"So you were out with her," Denji laughs. "You should just tell her you like her man."

"You don't know what you're talking about," Aki states in a low voice. In truth, he already confessed and did much more with you. But he kept it a secret. You said you wanted to take things slow; no label was placed on it. He didn't want people asking you about what you guys were when you didn't know yourself.

Aki sighs, "I'm heading to bed now."

"Aw, cheer up, Hayakawa; I'm sure you'll be able to go out with her," Denji jokes.

Aki smirks, "Sure, Denji."

You wake up the following day, still giddy from your date with Aki. You blush at the memory of kissing him. You turn your head when you hear your phone ring; you stretch before getting out of your bed to pick it up.

"Hello, y/n speaking," you yawn.

"Hey y/n, this is Makima. I want you to make a contract with a new devil," she demands.

"Huh," you question, "I already have a contract with a devil. I'm not in the market for another."

"I suggest you open yourself up again if you don't wish to be removed from devil hunting?" Makima ordered.

"I didn't ask to be a devil hunter again... last time I check, you begged me to be here," you taunted. "Something about protecting Denji, ring a bell to ya."

The line stays silent as you wait for Makima's response. "Yikes, might have struck a nerve," you thought.

"Well, I suppose you're correct, y/n. I did ask you to be a part of the team. How could I forget?" She laughs innocently, "But I still need you to make a new contract with this devil. I need you to be strong if we are to meet the Gun Devil."

You groan; you never wanted to go to the Gun Devil. In fact, you hope you will be able to get Aki of out it before then. This is why you are hesitant to take on another contract. You don't need it if your plan succeeds. But looking at how things are playing out so far, Aki still seems pretty determined to kill that devil. So u need as much time as you can get to pull him out in time. Sacrifices are to be made for the ones you care for.

You sigh, "I don't know, Makima. What will happen if I don't want to take on this new contract. Will I just go back to my engineering job?"

You hear Makima softly laugh, "No, I would just send you back home since I would have no need for you."

You were stunned; you weren't ready to leave Tokyo behind just yet. There were so many things you had left to do. "Fine. I'll do it but tell me who's the devil."

Makima smiled behind the phone, "You'll see soon enough. Let's hope you can get a new weapon. Meet me today at the office."

You enter headquarters when you are greeted by Makima herself.

"Hello, y/n," Makima greets.

"Hey," you say back, "So... where is this devil I'm supposed to make a contract with?"
