"Hey, do you mind watching where you are going." a stern voice said.
"Well you're one to talk, you should also watch where you're walking. Maybe if you paid attention to where you're going, I wouldn't have bumped into you." you huffed. You look up to see the asshole you bumped into and see a guy around your age who wore a suit similar to Kurose. He had his hair tied into a top knot and had a katana situated on his back. Annoyed, you picked up your bag and placed it on your shoulder, and you began to walk when you were called.
"Uh, hey you also dropped this." The man spoke apathetically, holding your phone up for you to see. You walked back to get your phone.
"Thank you..." You respond, taking your phone from the guy's hand.
"Hayakawa Aki," he says with a straight face, "Are you the new recruit for devil hunting?"
"Um, L/n F/n. No, not a devil hunter, just an intern, specifically in the engineering department" you utter.
"Oh, I see. A shame you won't be devil hunting."
You raise your eyebrow slightly at his comment. Aki states, "if you're looking for Makima, she is in her office."
"Thank you, Hayakawa, and you can just call me y/n. L/n is too formal for me," you replied.
"Alright, then see you later... y/n." Aki walked away and left you alone. You enter and ask the front desk to inform Makima of your arrival. The receptionist leads you to Makima's office and thus leads you to your current conversations with Makima.
"So y/n, I hope you don't mind if I leave you within a special division I am forming currently. I want you to see what the devil hunters are doing during their fights and see if you can spot any issues that might need fixing. Can you do that for me?" she states with a sweet smile.
"You are my boss, so I can't exactly say no. But, I will only be on the sidelines, right? I don't have to fight?" you respond in an uneasy tone.
Makima looked directly into your eyes. "Well you said yourself you're an engineering student, so why would you be in the front lines killing devils?"
"Riight... I just want to ensure I'll be reasonably safe while on the job. I don't get paid enough to risk my life" You wittily respond back.
"Not to worry, I am positive you will be safe, so assuming you accept this job. You will be working under special division four. You will only be on the sidelines watching the devil hunters and seeing what needs improvement. Improvement in the sense of having certain weapons gives our hunters an advantage in the field. Things of that nature. I will introduce you to the team after I come back from a mission. I have some errands to do, but after that, I will introduce you to everyone, or meet them yourself. Until then feel free to look at your office, set things up there and at your apartment as well. You can take your leave."
You smile a little, "Thank you Makima, I will not disappoint you. I'll head to my office now." you replied, leaving Makimas office, closing her door behind you.
"That girl has a devil contract, I can smell it, but who is she contracted with? And why does she have a contract with a devil anyways? I'll find out soon enough." Makima said to herself.
You head to your office and set up the essentials: pens, pencils, notepads, folders, and engineering paper. You sat on your chair, spinning a pen around your fingers as you thought to yourself, "There isn't much to do here since Makima said I would officially start working once she returns from her mission. But why is she placing me in such close contact with devil hunters? I am interning as an engineer... Does she know? I highly doubt it... she didn't do an extensive background check on me. But if she finds out I have a devil contract, she might force me to work as a devil hunter and not an engineer, one of the last things I want to do. I'm trying to get better as an engineer."
You let out a sigh and headed to your apartment to fix the things there. The apartment is small but has enough space for just one person. It was a one-bedroom apartment but had a few extra amenities that you enjoyed. It had a porch so you were able to place a few plants that you bought on your way back from headquarters. The kitchen was spacious so cooking would be an easy experience hopefully. "I think I'll enjoy my new life here," you thought to yourself. Smiling at the idea of being able to live a new life and hopefully find some happiness in your life. Shit, I should probably call my mom before she gets mad again.
A/n: Yay second chapter! Hope you enjoyed this chapter, this is just you settling into your new home.
