The final match between the two final schools soon began as both teams were fired up to start the game with the first team to take three sets taking gold at Interhigh Nationals. On the bleachers, we're two boys who stood behind the railing, watching the match with slight interest while having their own conversation.
"I mean... top eight isn't that bad."
"Of course, it isn't." Golden eyes watched the ongoing rally, though while his eyes followed the ball, his head was mostly in the conversation with his fellow second year. "I'm just mad that Mujinazaka lost the next day, it felt like our loss was in vain."
"Uh... our loss was in vain?" Hirugami raised one of his eyebrows. "It's a volleyball match Kourai-kun."
"I know that!" Hoshiumi said with as he looked at his fellow second year with his eyebrows scrunched together. "I'm just saying that Mujinazaka could've done better... we probably would."
"You don't know that," Hirugami said while shaking his head. "Besides, I'm pretty sure Ichibiyashi's loss hurt way more. I mean... going overtime to a hundred points then losing? I'm not really a competitive person but even I would've had my spirit crushed after that."
"Yeah, well..." Hoshiumi slightly pursed his lips as he crossed his arms. "Hmph. They did good, nothing to be ashamed of."
"Oh?" Hirugami raised one of his eyebrows. "Here I thought you were gonna say that they could've done better. What's with the change of heart?"
"Whaddya mean change of heart?" Hoshiumi gave an annoyed side glance to Hirugami before returning his sight to the game. "They did good, that's all."
"It's [Last Name]-san, isn't it–"
"No," Hoshiumi flatly replied as a short silence wafted over the two of them.
"So... he didn't do good?" Hirugami said with a slightly confused expression.
Hoshiumi scrunched his face while gritting his teeth at the answer that came out of his mouth. "Of course he's good, he's one of the best damn liberos in this tournament. That's what pisses me off."
"He pisses you off... because he's good," Hirugami flatly said with a slight judgmental look on his face.
"No! You don't get it!" Hoshiumi shouted causing a few onlookers to glance at them before returning their attention to the game.
"I clearly don't," Hirugami shrugged.
Hoshiumi let out an annoyed rumble from the back of his throat while squinting his eyes at nothing in particular. "It's like... he has this presence on the court that makes him hard to ignore. He's able to go head-to-head with the best players and make them quake in their boots." He then closed his eyes and let out a sigh. "I mean... he's even managed to get the attention of frickin' Ushijima, the same dude that things power and height are everything."
Hirugami simply hummed at the statement as he glanced behind him with an interested look. "So... is he good?"
Hoshiumi snorted at the statement while crossing his arms, his eyes still closed. "Definitely... Like I'd be caught dead saying that to his face though."
"Say what?" Hirugami asked
"What?"
"Say what to his face?"
