[Name] looked up at the gymnasium with one hand in his pocket and the other gripping the sash of his sports bag that hung from his shoulder and simply imagined all the what-ifs.
What if he didn't miss that receive?
What if it wasn't their last day to play yesterday?
What if... they made it to the finals?
He simply sighed while letting out a hollow laugh and shaking his head. There was never any good from thinking of the what-ifs, yet his mind couldn't help but wonder about the very question.
"Well," Kazuo said whilst walking past him followed by the rest of the team. [Name] looked up before following them while attempting to brush the thoughts out of his head walking beside his captain "Since it's our last day, I'm sure all of you packed your stuff in the bus? Anyway, we aren't playing today but reaching top four is not a feat that can easily be brushed off, isn't that right?"
Kazuo gave the libero a nudge before he looked at him with a questioning look before turning around and giving his team a smile. "Yeah, you guys did great. Besides, there's still Spring Nationals next year, so we'll have a chance to get first place next time, ey?"
As he received a chorus of agreements, he couldn't help but smile at the mood of his team. It reminded him that they would eventually get back up, like a forest after a fire, they would grow stronger.
"So I won't hold you hostage with a speech–"
"Yet," the other third years cut him off prompting a soft sigh from Kazuo.
"Yet," Kazuo repeated. "But it's our last day, so spend how you wanna spend the day in the stadium whether that be going from stall to stall or watching the game. Just... please stay on the premises and stick with someone so you don't get lost alone."
"Now go off!" [Name] shouted. "Before Taicho gets all emotional and keeps you here for another ten minutes."
"Hai!"
Eventually, the team split off into groups the moment they entered the gym, the third years dragging Kazuo off to go over to the food stalls while the first years and second years began talking amongst each other about what to do.
"So," Katsuo materialized beside the libero and placed his arm around his shoulder. "I hate how we gotta change into our uniforms for the closing ceremony. Wanna drop off our stuff at the lockers and walk around?"
"That seems like a plan." [Name]'s eyes glanced over at the stalls to check if there was anything good. Only then did his eyes brush over to two boys dressed in their volleyball uniforms looking like highlighters talking to each other... or one boy talking to the other while the other looked like he didn't wanna be there. "Actually, you mind dropping off my stuff and watching over the first years?" He said as he gave his bag to his fellow second-year.
Katsuo followed his line of sight before realizing what he was about to do. "Right, you didn't say anything to them yesterday." Katsuo suddenly frowned at the thought that entered his mind. "Taicho's gonna get mad if you start a fight here... plus Jun can't back you up–"
"I'm not gonna start a fight," [Name] cut him off with a frown before straightening his jacket and running his fingers through his hair. "I'm just gonna say hi and stuff."
