RESET
Here is an idea and it just came to me... I've been reading a lot of new stuff the last couple of years with Claire, she has been recommending some really cool stuff that I had not run across before. So, it's been some great reads and I have loved them a lot...but I am feeling like I need to get into some rereads big time and an idea hit me.....I'll re read the books that I have in my books read list... my written down list that I kept up with for years until I got to just putting it in Goodreads... So about 20 years ago(not counting Loop years, of course) I started writing down books... titles and authors, date started and date ended and number of pages. My very first book that I wrote down was Harry Harrison's Invasion Earth...Wow! I see it written down there in my journal and yet I am not remembering anything at all about this book. Which is kinda awesome and kinda a little sad too... that I have forgotten this book so completely.
For a few years before the Loop started up for me, I noticed that I was not remembering books with the clarity that I once did. Like I could remember that I had read a particular book... but that would be it. I know I read it but not what it was about at all. Or I would remember just the bare minimum and then others would really stick with me and I would remember quite a bit once I got to thinking about it and focusing on it. But back in college, man I could tell you everything about a book... just from memory. The author, the title, what the book was about, when I read it (generally that is, not a specific date) but at least the year. I could tell you who did the art work for the cover and I had a few absolute favorites... Darrel K Sweet, Boris Vallejo, Frank Frazzetta are a few that still come to mind.
Well, as part of the Loop I set up, I wanted my memory improved a little so the books that I've been reading... since the loop started... I have a clear memory of those books... title, author and what it's about. I could talk for hours about the books I've read in the Loop and that Claire and I have read together and the books that Claire's read and just told me about and that I plan on reading myself at some point. Yeah, yeah... I know... all the time in the world right? Even with that I don't think I am ever gonna run out of books to read. Wow that kinda blows my mind sometimes when I think about it....so yeah, Harrison's Invasion Earth...no idea at all what the book is about no idea if I liked it and that was another thing for years there I could remember I had read a book and if I liked it or not, but not what It was about at all.
So, yeah, this is gonna be a really cool trip down memory lane... going through and reading years' worth of books that I have read before and I am sure as I go along I'll hit books that I remember and love and it will be so cool to see again what I wrote about that first read. I only wish now that I would have recorded if I liked the book or not...as a pretty rock hard rule though I did not finish a book that I did not like, so I know I had recorded of a few of those... ever since I made my self finish the book Lord of the Flies I've not made myself finish a book that I did not enjoy reading. I'm reading it for fun and to be taken out of my own world. So if I'm not liking it, why in the world would I want to waste time reading a book that is not fun and takes me out of my world?
Within about 5 minutes of digging online, I had located a digital copy of the book and was happily reading along and losing myself in the story. I had not read anything at all about what it was about. I had gone in cold, as it were... reading and figuring it out as I go along. Which a lot of the time is the way I like best to read a book. I have found many times that a part of the book is spoiled a little for me because something was given away about the book too soon in the blurb that tells what the book is about. I really hate when they do that, don't you?
I am not going to bore you with what the book was about or the long list of books that I read after that as I made my way through my old books read list from ages past. And I can hear that sigh of relief...all I will say is that for the most part I really enjoyed all the books and it was so much fun! On a couple of them, as until I read that list and started that book I had no idea I had just re-found a long lost friend.
There was one book though that even though I remember reading back in high school and really liking the book and reading all of the rest of the books in the series but on this reading I did not care for the book at all. So I did not read the rest of the series. I skipped those as they came up and jumped to the next book. So, yeah, I highly recommend that you reread some of your old books from long ago... it may trigger some happy memories or you may discover a long lost friend as I did on a couple of occasions.
With working on my list...and an occasional trip with Claire... that list kept me busy for about 10 years' worth of time. Yeah, that's a big chunk of time... but when looking at eternity... it's not all that much at all and it was sooooo good to have Claire with me reading some of the books with me that were new to her. We share a lot of the same interests but not all so some of the hard sci fi books she skipped out on and some of the Stephen King books I actually skipped out on myself as I had lost the desire to read his books after my divorce and even with all the years since both out of the Loop and in, I had lost that author and I doubt if I will ever read his books again. And I had once really enjoyed his books so much.
During my trip down book memory lane, Claire and I still watched a lot of movies and tv shows... all of our favorites and new favs that we discovered along the way. We went for long walks around town. We would go back to the coffee shop where it all started for us... all those long years ago and yeah nothing has changed in town or anywhere for that matter.
There was a time there that we thought maybe someone else would become aware of the Time Loop that we live in now, but as far as we can tell no one ever has. At least not that we have found. We still will look online and in town to see if someone shows sign of becoming aware of the Loop and it's just us two happily in love and there is so much joy in being together with not a thing to worry about. And sharing our love of books and shows together and the great love that we have for each other only seems to grow stronger with each day. Now, don't get me wrong, we will have an argument some days and they can get quite heated... but we both are secure in knowing that we will never leave each other, and that argument is only a short time thing and will not last. Our love will always last just as this Loop is always going to last.
As I have stated a couple times before, I am sure there are those of you reading this... if you've even made it this far... there are those reading and wondering how it that possible?? And I really can't tell you. I just know that it works for us and we love it! And find new things every day to enjoy or re discover an old thing to enjoy now and we would truly not want to have it any other way at all. I will say this... don't knock it til you've tried it... ya know that old-time saying? ....there is a lot of truth there that is for sure.
