More Brick & Stone Part 23

Brick and Stone and Cloud were just sitting down to eat their dinner when there came a knock at the door and a frantic voice yelling loudly "Brick! Brick! Are you there??!!  I need your help"

Brick jumped up and ran to the door. There stood the doctor of the village. "What's going on doc?" Brick asked.

"We need your help!" said the doctor "There's been an accident and Mister Mitty is trapped under a tree... it seems the rain last night loosened up the ground so much that the big tree in the northwest corner of the village fell over just as Mitty was walking past it. And he is trapped. I don't think he's hurt... at least he says he's not in any pain and as far as I can tell all we need to do is lift the tree off him, just enough to slide him out from under it."

"Can you help us please? We need your great strength Brick! Please, you have to help us."

"Of course, Doc, I'll do all that I can. Let's go. " Brick says and shouts back over his should as he is stepping through the door on his way out "Cloud,  can you watch after Stone for a bit? Doc needs me.  I'll be back as soon as I can."

"Of course" says Cloud "You go and help Mr. Mitty."

Cloud and Stone are right there at the door as Brick is running after Doc and Cloud turns to Stone and says "Are you ready to go?" Stone smiles and says "I knew there was a reason I liked you! You know I'm ready! Let's go! I know just the tree they are heading for and I know a short cut too."

So Cloud and Stone are running as fast as they can to see if they can help Mr. Mitty. And I know, I know.... you're thinking that Cloud lied to Brick... she said she would watch after Stone and that's exactly what she's doing. Just not at home like maybe had been Brick's intention when he asked Cloud to watch after Stone. But Cloud has such a good heart, no way could she wait by and do nothing when there was someone that needed help.

They all reach the tree at the same time and Brick takes one look at Cloud and Stone and he just smiles and says "y'all lift that side and I'll do this side and let's see what we can do."

So they get into position and Doc is right there with Mitty's paws sticking out from under the tree and Brick says "On three, we lift "and starts to count ..." 1,2,3" and they grab onto the limbs on their sides and lift with all they have and Doc yells out "Hold right there for one second" and he carefully pulls Mitty out from under the tree just as Brick is straining and yelling "Hurry Doc!" and doc yells out "Clear!" And they drop the tree and rush over to Mr. Mitty and Doc is checking him over and calls out "He's ok! A few scratches, but nothing to worry about!  All's good here! Thanks so much."

By this time, there is a crowd around them, and a cheer goes up and Brick and Cloud and Stone are all embarrassed and shyly wave to everyone and they head on back to Cloud's to have their dinner.

"Well. I am so glad we came to help Brick. I don't think even with how strong you are that you could have lifted that without our help on the other side there." Cloud says, with a smile and a wink at Stone. Stone is just grinning from ear to ear, he's so proud of himself for being there to help someone. Just likes he's seen Brick do so many times before.

"I'm really glad y'all came to help too. You're right. I don't think I could have done it without y'all." Brick says, with his own grin from ear to ear.

Within a few more minutes they are all back at Cloud's and ready to dig into that tuna steak and chips and salad that Cloud had made for them.

They had such a wonderful time. Laughing and talking together that Brick was thinking to himself that he should have done this ages ago and why hadn't he? Stone is just thinking that it's about time Brick and Cloud were hanging out. He had been trying to make something like this happen since the first time he laid eyes on Cloud. He just knew that Brick and Cloud were meant to be together. Why hadn't they seen it themselves? And looking around the table, maybe they had seen it! Because they were sure smiling and laughing a lot.

And Cloud was thinking...why had she waited so long? And she was so glad that she had finally asked and too, that they had all been together when someone needed their help... had been needed like it was part of some mystic cosmic plan... like it was fate almost! And she felt so proud that they had not even hesitated to help at all. They had just dropped everything and ran right out to help a neighbor in need.

They had such a good time in fact that Brick and Stone stayed for a few hours after all the food was gone and everything was all cleaned up and put away... just chatting and laughing and getting to know each other better.

It was about an hour later that Brick looked over and noticed that Stone had fallen fast asleep.

"Oh,wow... I've kept him up way past his bedtime Cloud. I really should get him home to bed" Brick said.

"Yes, I suppose you should. Thanks again so much for your help today and for coming over for dinner. I've had a wonderful time. I hope we can do this again soon." Cloud said, smiling at Brick.

Brick smiled back and said "Oh, yes. I did too. Such a fantastic time...you're a great cook Cloud and a perfect host. I am sure we will do this soon... how about tomorrow actually?"

He's nervous for just a moment and then Cloud laughs and says, "I was thinking the exact same thing Brick! What are you making for dinner tomorrow?"

"Oh, Stone and me, we will just have to surprise you Cloud. But I'm sure you'll love it."

And again, Brick surprises himself and he reaches down and gives Cloud a warm hug and a kiss on her forehead and with a blush on his face, he picks up Stone and the two of them are out the door and on their way home.

Cloud is blushing too and happier than she has ever been. She can't wait to get to be with Brick and Stone at dinner tomorrow.
