A vagrant's past

I found your letters today
And sank them into water
I tore them into tiny pieces
And watched the words dissolve

The letters were a transcription
Between two desolate imaginative souls
Of a nearly-forgotten conversation
Between lovers with cracks and gaps and holes

I'd embraced the idea of you so openly
Being a child myself
Too innocent and naïve
To process life itself

And in our time together
I'd choke and sob and despair
Needlessly wondering why
You'd hurt me and not care

"He said we have unfinished business."
You concluded, as if proud
As if you hadn't chosen to be unfaithful
But it doesn't matter now

The innocent girl didn't stay vulnerable
The angel doesn't sleep
The tower where the reaperlives
Doesn't haunt my dreams

And until this day
I'd forgotten the ruins of my past
You were right; I'm stronger
And my passion will everlast
