Straddling the truth until it

Until it sputtered its last
Unapologetic slurs
Would you stay by the ugly
And violent mess it becomes?

                          
Would you try?

                          
Would you risk every sense
Of a life you've yet to live
To see a truth through to the end
Would you
Carry the courage your past self
Could only have longed to
