Sure, Nancy had completely hinted towards Robin that she wanted to be left alone, but when Robin genuinely heeded her words, Nancy felt another weight being added to her heaping pile of disappointment.

The pile kept getting bigger and the content was all Nancy could focus on.

Disappointment that she had told the only person she felt comfortable around to leave.

Disappointment that she had to stay under close supervision at a hospital for a while, because she was too much of a wimp to deal with her problems in a healthy way.

Disappointment that she couldn't have stopped the Man from his attack.

She had acted so helpless, and instead of even trying to fight back, she had given up.

When Nancy thought about it this way, she then began to believe that it was her fault. The way she was dressed, the way she was so easily tricked, and the way that she barely put up a fight, Nancy soon came to the conclusion that she had just been asking for it.

Now, with a conclusion along the lines of that one, there will soon be a great load on your mental health.

For Nancy it was almost instant.

The walls suddenly became five sizes smaller, and it felt like she was having an allergic reaction, the way her throat was closing up.

It was like she was on a tightrope, teetering in between the tops of two skyscrapers, a slight gust of wind would have been able to push her over.

That's when the power went out.

That was the gust of wind that sent Nancy tumbling from the thin rope, towards the cold hard ground, and when the ground grew closer and closer, and Nancy had lost all hope, warm arms caught her.

Robin's arms.

Nancy almost audibly gasped in relief when she felt Robin's soft arms snake around her body and pull her close.

Together, they lay in that bed for long time, but it didn't feel like a long time, the way that they held each other, and the way that both of their hearts were beating erratically.

Nancy wanted more than anything to say sorry, to apologize for being so self-centred that she couldn't see that the one person she trusted was the one she sent away.

But her throat still felt closed up, and the way Nancy couldn't have said anything even if she really wanted to, made her frustrated beyond belief.

It was almost as if Robin could sense Nancy's frustration, and it was like she instantly knew the right thing to do.

She rubbed slow but deliberate circles on Nancy's back with one hand while the other was tracing up and down Nancy's jawline.

Then Robin spoke.

"I spoke with the hospital staff." Robin started, voice low and calming, making Nancy lean further into the embrace. "You have to talk with your mother, and if you set a few guidelines, you might be able to go home,"

"Really! With you?" Nancy said, misinterpreting Robin's words, and having the first surge of hope she had felt in a while.

"No," Robin said, guilty for giving Nancy high hopes before crushing them again. "Not really, you'd go home with your mom, and then you could see Mike and Holly, and your Dad!"

Nancy burst into tears.

It was so unexpected, since Robin thought Nancy would be out of her hospital bed bouncing off the walls to get out.

"I don't wanna go," Nancy blurted out, hard to understand through her thick tears.

"Okay, can you tell me why?" Robin asked, not wanting to come across as too forceful.

"I haven't been with anyone male for a long p-period of time since- since he.. I don't-" Nancy only said before her words got overtaken by severe hiccups and sobs that left Nancy a panicking mess.

"okay," Robin said, reaching back in for a hug. "It's ok. You can stay here if you feel more comfortable. I can- no, I will talk to the hospital staff, and tell them to only send in female nurses, so to don't have to feel-"

"No, I don't wanna stay... either," Nancy said, still unable to spit out a full sentence without out it being interrupted by a violent hiccup.

"I don't understand, Nance," Robin said, concern and uncertainty evident in her voice.

Just then the door clicked open, and Robin felt Nancy flinch against her from the sudden noise.

Robin and Nancy peered at the two unknown silhouettes, both of them shrouded in the darkness.

But then the power turned back on.

And when the two figures were revealed to be Mrs. Wheeler and a female Nurse, Robin's breaths slowed to a normal rate.

But Nancy's didn't, so Robin gave her hand a gentle squeeze to remind Nancy that she wasn't alone.

"Miss Wheeler!" The female nurse said at an obnoxiously loud volume, making Nancy flinch for a second time.

Robin have the nurse a stink eye before turning and looking at Mrs. Wheeler.

The anxious mother slowly crept forwards, but when Nancy scrambled backwards in her bed, she stopped abruptly.

"Please don't make me go." Nancy said, surprising everyone with her sudden speech.

"I-" Mrs. Wheeler said, defeat clear in her voice. "I knew you would say something like that."

Robin exchanged a confused glance with Mrs. Wheeler, who has been confident before that Nancy would be grateful for the comforts of home instead of the hospital.

Sadness was brimming her eyes and her voice as she said,

"I already signed the paperwork. You can go home with Robin, for a while. Until you feel safe again. Even though it hurts, I can see the way you trust Robin more than anyone right now. More than you trust me. And right now, the only thing I want is for you to feel safe."
