It had been a whole week of stress, comfort, anxiety and utter confusion.Seven whole days, and now it was time for Nancy to go into court, to see the man who had committed unspeakable acts towards her.
She had just gotten back into a regular lifestyle, laughing for the first time in what had seemed like forever.
But neither her or Robin had been able to laugh again since Robin received that call.
Since then, they had been in a state of denial, trying to figure out how this man had been able to attempt freedom after what he had done.
Apparently, the Man, who's name was revealed to be Clyde Smith, had appointed a lawyer to give him a shot of getting out of jail, if he could convince the court his story was true.
And as ridiculous as it sounded, this was his story:
He claimed that Nancy and him had been in a relationship for a while now, and Nancy had always been ashamed of the age gap. So, she had actually set up the whole night, attempting to frame him as the bad guy.
When Nancy heard this, she paled, then immediately ran to the bathroom, hunching over the toilet, and expelled the content of her stomach.
Robin of course, followed her, holding her hair back and out of her mouth, rubbing Nancy's back slowly and gently.
After heaving for a minute, Nancy leaned against the wall closest to the toilet, remaining on her knees.
Robin lowered herself to Nancy's height, and simply enveloped her in a warm hug, no words exchanged.
Since that moment, after multiple reassurances from Robin that she knew the story Clyde was feeding everyone was indeed a lie, Nancy was prepping herself for the day she had been dreading for some time.
Pulling Robins sweats off, she slipped into a long, flowy white skirt, and pulled a pale pink knit sweater over top of that, making sure that her shoulders, and most of her skin was covered.
With shaking hands, she went to put the matching white flower clip up to her hair, but the trembling became too violent for her to place it correctly.
Frustrated with herself for being so weak, Nancy could feel her eyes welling up with tears, but she stubbornly refused to let any of them spill over.
Over the voices in Nancys head, telling her the worst possible outcomes that this day could end with, she didn't hear Robin slip into her room, and so she flinched slightly when two arms wrapped around her waist.
Robin brushed the flinch off, knowing that today was going to be a very hard day.
So, she used her hands to rotate Nancy away from the mirror, and towards her, the corners of her lips tugging downwards when she saw the glassy eyes and trembling hands.
Not sure how to help, Robin put a hand over Nancys shaking ones, calming them down.
She then took the flower pin from Nancys fingers, and gently brushed Nancys hair out of her face, using the pin to hold it back.
And Robin was genuinely surprised when it stayed, because she normally screwed things up, and doing hair was not one of her strong suits. That's why her hair is almost always down in loose waves, or up in a messy bun that requires little to no effort.
But it was so worth it to Robin when Nancy turned back towards the mirror and smiled.
A small smile.
But a real smile none the less.
So Robin wrapped her arms back around Nancys waist, resting her chin on Nancys shoulders, the two of them making eye contact in the mirror.
And Nancy let a single tear fall, but only one.
Because she knew this day would hurt her, emotionally.
It was going to be hard.
Exhausting.
But at least Robin would be with her.
Like a sighting of land after travelling the endless ocean of blue for days, Nancy clung to the feeling of hope, not letting go, in case it disappeared.
But Robin was going to stay.
And she was going to do everything in her power to make justice for Nancy, and make sure that Clyde's lies didn't spread around, plaguing the truth.
Because Nancy deserves the best.
And that's what Robin will make sure she gets.
