Robin was still in a state of shock, as the thing she had always dreamed of, but never vocalized about, was happening at this very moment.Currents of electricity passed through them as butterflies erupted in both of their stomachs.
Robin brought her hands up to Nancys face, mirroring the position of Nancys hands on her face.
Time slowed, and for a moment, they both forgot that they were living in a time where this would be frowned upon.
Instead, it was only the two of them, together finally, expressing their emotions towards each other without using words.
Suddenly, Nancy pulled out of her grasp, and Robin felt a sense of emptiness that she had never felt before.
"I- I'm sorry." Nancy said, a stuttering, blushing mess. "I forced that onto you, and that's not fair-"
Robin, also a blushing mess, cut her off right away by pressing their lips back together, her sense of emptiness vanishing.
Robin smiled into the kiss, and Nancy smiled right back.
They slowly broke away from the kiss, but their heads remained close, foreheads pressed against each other's.
Nancy could hardly breathe, a feeling of joy and disbelief taking over her body. She had just gotten to share an incredible experience with a girl whom she had wanted to do that with for a very long time. In fact, it was something she wanted to do practically every time she looked into those gorgeous light blue eyes, and saw those freckles scattered around her face, like a constellation, or a map, that only Nancy could read. It made Nancy flustered, every time Robin lended Nancy her clothes, as well as when Robin talked in her voice fit for an angel.
And Robin felt the same way. People say that brown eyes are boring, average, but Robin gets that funny feeling in her stomach every time she gets lost in Nancy's gorgeous eyes. And Robin loves the way that when Nancy is concerned, or thinking really, really hard about something, her eyebrows will furrow together, creating an adorable crease between them. Not to mention, Nancy was the type of person who Robin would do quite literally anything for. It probably wasn't a good sign, but Robin knew she was too far gone to stop now. If Nancy asked for a star in the night sky, Robin would make sure that Nancy got it, even if it was the last thing Robin did.
The two of them remained standing wordlessly on that small nook, bodies tangled together, hands still caressing each others faces gently.
They honestly would have stayed like that for as long as they could, but a voice rang out, calling out Nancy's name.
So reluctantly, Robin took a deep breath, and let go of Nancy's face, bringing her hand back down to her side, Nancy doing the same.
But Nancy grabbed Robin's hand back, the two of them intertwining their fingers.
Faces still red, the two girls walked out of the nook, in search of the person attempting to find Nancy.
It was Mrs. Wheeler.
She stood there, and then she saw her daughter, her face brightening considerably.
Then her mood changed as she absorbed the state her daughter and Robin were in, giving them both a knowing look.
Robin understood the glance, and realized they didn't fix themselves up after their moment, their kiss painstakingly obvious to anyone who knew that Robin never wore lipstick, no matter how light or small the quantity, or to anyone who knew that Nancy's hair was always in perfect condition, never a hair out of place.
Robin let out a nervous chuckle, and glanced at Nancy, who just looked back at Robin, then at Mrs. Wheeler.
And Mrs. Wheeler just smiled, causing Nancy to run forwards, and give her mother a tight hug.
And Mrs. Wheeler would be lying if she said that she didn't cry in that moment.
Because, this was the first time that she had made physical contact with her daughter since that horrible night, and it had been initiated by Nancy herself.
They were moving forwards.
Sure, they were normally tiny steps, but this one was a bigger step than normal.
Nancy was going to get better.
