Someday
Petra wasn't sure what to say
Other than
"I guess, someday?"
She could tell this wasn't the answer
Buck was looking for
As suddenly, he turned away.
Petra wasn't sure how to make him understand
She didn't want to be shackled to any man
They exchanged rings. Why was that not enough?
Getting through these next few moments would be tough.
Marriage meant ownership and that wouldn't do
Not after everything, the Diamonds went through
"Buck, please understand I wish I was a kind of woman
who would blush, who would gush over such a confession.
But in life, I've learned too many hard lessons."
"I want to live my life with you,
but I wish to be independent too.
That's why I don't stay on my father's ship.
I know how easily I could fall into it.
That feeling of dependence on others to take care
But I don't dare. "
"You are my heart and soul
This I need you to know
And I may at some point change my view,
But today,
I can offer only someday.
Is that okay, with you?"
