Some Old Times and Some New
The sound of the greeting brought a surprise
'Good evening, Sheriff.' He saw relief in her eyes'
Just passin, don't want to interrupt.'
'Not at all,' she replied, nervous – abrupt.
'I'd like you to meet Aaron Trenholme an old friend.
'Any friend of Harriet.' 3Gun gripped his hand.
'Welcome to BG, hope you have some time to spend.'
'Something I had hoped for too.
Will you join us for a coffee, or are there things to do?'
3Gun glanced at Harriet, her eyes said please
He considers a moment and then agrees.
So you came from Tuckerville,' 3Gun said.
'How did you know?' Aaron's ears turned red.
'The stage driver, Whip, he just loves to gossip.
Loves to let me know when new folks show up.'
'Aaron owned the paper there,' Harriet supplied.
'He should meet CG then, she's our newspaper pride.'
'Perhaps I could.' Aaron glanced at his date.
'Tomorrow would be good, tonight's too late.'
3Gun watched the man, taking his measure.
'I could introduce you then, be my pleasure.'
Harriet breathed a sigh of relief.
Covered the act with her handkerchief.
'That's very kind, Sheriff,' she shared a smile.
'I can get my library work done, meanwhile.'
'Well, nice to meet you, Aaron. See you tomorrow.'
'Yes . . . thanks, Sheriff.' Spoken with sorrow.
