Knock on Wood
Denver was in a different place, trying to wake him up was like knocking on wood, the tree's alive but it never answers.
Ever since the Doc had left, he'd not uttered a word, and there were times when the family thought that a good thing.
Even when Missy tried to get him excited, he didn't stir, how strange as he'd always claimed there was life in the old dog yet.
Petra and the girls all did their voodoo thing, it never worked and all they wanted to do was scream, for their instincts told them that he was just being an awkward old bugger.
Slipping him in and out of the icy bath had succeeded in dropping his temperature, so all signs of Tick Fever had gone, Bret said, we could have used him to chill their drinks.
Look here Son, this isn't funny we've got to shake your father out of this, from what I've heard if he gets too comfortable he may remain stuck in there for years, by when he will be past his sell by date.
Everyone had gathered around his bed to discuss the way ahead, it wasn't like Denver had made plans for such circumstances as these, but surely he must have been eve's dropping from somewhere inside an otherwise engaged mind.
Especially when Petra recalled the time when AJ had been shot by a poisoned arrow and Dad who was disguised as some guy called Red Rock Bill had recommended that the Doc call upon the services of the Injun Medicine Man called Snakebite.
Panic must have set in at the mention of that name, for he was instantly overwhelmed and the mention of the name washed away any of the pleasure island dreams he was experiencing, whilst locked up nice and comfy in his mental cocoon, and in a manner typical of Denver, he grumbled."Can't a guy get any peace around here?"
