You didn't see Jake very much. Even after he finally made himself known to Marc and Steven, and eventually you, he wasn't fond of fronting. He only ever fronted if he needed to do and, once that need had been satisfied, he would let either Marc or Steven take control once more. The few times you did see him was when he was he about to leave or just arriving home. Sometimes he would stick around long enough for a kiss, maybe a cuddle if he was up to it. But, for the most part, Jake didn't linger.

Which was why it shocked you when you woe up one Saturday morning to him curled up next to you in bed, his head resting on your chest, his fingers digging slightly into your sides as he held on so tightly you wondered if he was scared to let go.

"Morning," you said, pressing a kiss to the top of his head. "When did you get in? I thought you were going to be gone til Sunday."

Jake, as Khonshu's avatar, was still being dragged around the world to serve as Khonshu's fist. It wasn't uncommon for him to be missing for a few days to a week at a time. Sometimes he had to leave without saying anything, but most of the time he tried to leave a note or say goodbye, give you an E.T.A. on when he'd be back.

"Last night. Got finished early."

"And you stuck around?" you tried to tease, though the genuine concern still managed to lace its way into your voice.

"Got shot. Healed already. But almost didn't," he said. He buried his face further in your chest, his already tight grip tightening further. "Just needed to be with you. Makes me calm."

"I'm glad you stayed," you said, coming your fingers through his hair. "And I'm glad you're healed. I'd hate to lose you."

"Not gonna lose me, princess. Not ever. Always gonna come back home to you." He lifted his head, a tired gaze peering up at you. "Sing for me? Always hear you sing for Steven."

"Of course, my love," you said. You cleared your throat, before starting to sing a song you were sure he needed to hear. "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy, when the skies are grey..."

And, as you sang, Jake's head went back to resting on your chest, a content smile now on his face.

You didn't get to see Jake often, but it was moments like these that you would always cherish.
