Life was perfect. Well, almost. He has begun his royal guard training the dawn of the next morning. On his way to the courtyard. He had passed by many icewings working in the Ice palace. The majority of them were servants, third and fourth circle dragons. They bowed low as they passed him. It was surreal, like walking in a dream. All his life, he was always the one bowing. To be on the other end was a dream come true.

His new instructors were serious and didn't tease him. They were honest and critical, only speaking to Snowflake when a move could be improved or to teach him a new technique. Their criticism was brilliant and helpful. Not once did they akwoknowlege Snowflake's low rank lineage and only saw his as a comrade willing to give his life for the Queen.

The guards were brutal. It had been over a month and Snowflake had yet to win a battle. He was not discouraged, however. These hard-working dragons were training him to become the best warrior he could be. And he was still gifted.

His ability to learn and overcome made him an excellent student. Multiple times he caught the his comrads off-guard during sparring sessions. Within another month, he might even defeat one.

He moved out of his village and into his own private den the royal palace tended to by his new personal servants. He left with the villagers throwing a massive celebration in his honor. His friends and relatives said their goodbyes. Hare now belonged to the third circle and Ox still had one more month until his final rank. Moraine and Skua have both made it to the middle fourth.

To his delight, Hare managed to become a royal servant and often visited him. She was the only dragon that worked in the palace that Snowflake insited can speak to him without bowing first. And of course, she took advantage of that.

"RISE AND SHINE, PRETTY BOY. YOU'VE GOT TRAINING TO DO, STOP OVERSLEEPING BEFORE I LET LOOSE AN ARMY OF NARWHALS IN YOUR HOME!" Hare would often break in though his window in the early morning hours as his alarm clock. He always left it open just for her. Luckily for everyone else, the walls were soundproof and she always closed the window behind her so she could yell as loud as she wanted.

"Grrr, go awayyy." Snowflake snorted and lifted his wings over his head.

"Get up right now, or I'm not giving you this lovely little gift from Skuaaaa!" She sung and giggled as Snowflake immediately sat up.

"Say what now?"

"You heard me, meet me in the dining area!" The pink dragon sped down the corridor, snickering the entire way with Snowflake right behind her.

"I said to meet me there, not eat my tail. Here, for you." Hare rolled her eyes and handed him a small white box with a lavender silk bow. There was a small peice of parchment underneath. He read the note first:

Snow,

I haven't seen you in a while. We should really meet again! Remember the ice cliff where me, you, Hare, and Ox hunted that narwhal? Sunset tommorow. I'll be there. I've given Hare a specific day to deliver this, if she somehow screws this up I'll steal some of her fancy pink pearl jewelry. It probably would look good on me, now that I think about it, haha!

Anyway, enjoy this gift. I knew you always wanted this, and now I'm finally able to afford it! Of course you probably can, too, but I beat you to it!

Your friend,
Skua

"Wow, she got me a gift?" Snowflake murmured to himself. Hare had a giddy grin across her snout. Her tail tip was wagging like an arctic dog.
