Sam sighed as he stared up at the ceiling. He and Layla had decided on staying in separate hotel rooms so they wouldn't see each other the night before the wedding, but after being spoiled by being able to sleep next to her every night for the past year, he was really suffering. He could hear her and Ivy laughing in the other room as she got ready. He texted Layla. 'Can I have Beans while you get ready?' 'She's already with your aunt. Your mom came and got her this morning.' He frowned, throwing his phone on the bed. He could get ready at his parents, which he was planning on, but he really missed his girls.
He groaned, picking up his phone to call Danny, who didn't answer. They had already been staying in town for a few days prior to get ready for their "engagement party", so he had done his obligatory shopping in town, rounds with the baby, and random restaurant trips. His phone lit up with his mom's contact number. "Hello?" "Sammy, baby, I have Aunt Lisa over. She's going to take Juniper for the party tonight, except Juniper isn't having it and she's crying for you. I've tried everything and Layla isn't answering my FaceTime." "I think she's busy with Ivy. Let me come sit with her until she gets comfortable with Aunt Lisa." "Juni, your Daddy's coming." He heard a sniffle from the other end of the phone and the soft, "Daddy," that made his heart crack in his chest. He hung up with his mom, going next door, knocking on it. He heard Layla and Ivy's laughter along with another voice, who he assumed was the makeup artist. The door cracked open to Ivy greeting him, closing the door even further. "You know you aren't supposed to see her." "I'm not looking. The baby's having a meltdown at my mom's. I need to go." He could hear the smile in Layla's voice as she replied, "Thank you, baby. I love you. Call me if you need me. Call, not FaceTime." "I love you."
He drove home to his parents' house, being greeted with the screams of his daughter as soon as he walked in the door. "Beanie Weenie, where are you at Tootie Fruits?" He heard a small gasp and the pitter patter of small feet running towards the entryway. She rounded the corner, towing her blanket. "Mom, what time is it?" "2:30, why?" "Did you lay her down for her nap?" "No, I didn't even think of it. She hasn't acted tired." He picked his daughter up and she laid her head on his shoulder, sighing. "Is the guest room open?" "It's full of junk. Just put her in your old bed and bring her back up when she's awake." He carried her slowly down the stairs, laying her in his twin size mattress, climbing in beside her. "Hi, Beanie. Are you going to be good for Aunt Lisa tonight?" She nodded, smashing her face into her father's. He was excited to be trying for another baby, but he was going to miss this. Juniper had been his everything for almost two years, growing into the man he was by being her father. He sighed, closing his eyes.
He woke up to the sound of a camera shutter. He rolled over to be met with Ivy taking pictures. Juniper sighed beside him, rubbing her sweaty face into his, before sitting up. He smiled at her, tapping her nose. "Good morning, goofy girl. Do you feel better?" "I stirsty, Daddy." "Well, let's get up and fix that." He picked her up. She sighed, resting her head on his shoulder. He could hear Ivy taking photos behind him. He could hear his mother and future mother in law talking in the kitchen with his aunt. "Bye Iby!" He felt Juniper wave behind him, turning around to be met with no one. He blinked a couple times, confused, but chose to ignore it, making his way into the kitchen. All three women turned to him, his mom smiled. "The planner people called your phone while you were sleeping. They're outside." He nodded, laying his cheek on the back of Juniper's head. "Do you have her juice cup?" She nodded, getting it from the side of the sink where she had washed it. His aunt went to reach for Juniper but both Kelli and his mother stopped her. "Give her time to wake up." Karen handed Juniper her cup, sitting back at the counter. "Daddy, we go outside?" "We can go sit outside, sweet girl." "Where Mommy?" "With Auntie Ivy. Let's see if we can't call Uncle Daniel and get him over here."
He sat on the back swing, rocking his girl. Before he could even call Danny, he rounded the corner, dressed to the nines, hair thrown up in a bun. "There's my girl! I've been looking all over for you." She sat up straight, knocking her head into Sam's cheekbone. "Danny!" Danny picked up his goddaughter, spinning her around. "Daddy! Look! Danny! Oh, Danny." She laid her head on his shoulder, hugging him. Sam rolled his eyes, leaning back. Danny sat beside him. "I can't believe you guys are having your engagement party finally. I feel like you've been engaged for forever." "Eight long ass months." His Aunt Lisa walked out of the back door, "I'm ready to leave, Sam." He frowned, he always hated leaving Juniper. "Beanie, you gotta go with Aunt Lisa tonight for a sleepover." "No, Daddy. I stay here." He shook his head, "No, baby. Mommy and Daddy will get you in the morning for our birthday."
