Sam picked through their Netflix selection, massaging Layla's feet as she went through their calendar for the month. "I think we should go through the kids' lunch meal prep plans for next week-" Layla stopped herself short as she looked up at their five and a half year old standing in the doorway. She looked nervous, shifting on both feet like he tended to when nervous. He looked in the same direction. "What's wrong, Beanie? It's 11:00. Me and Mommy were about to go to bed." Layla rubbed her belly. She had been slowly starting to decline, and he was limiting his time away from home. Juniper's lip began to quiver. Layla sat up as quickly as she could with her growing belly. "Honey, come here." Juniper crawled in between them letting herself be wrapped in Layla's arms. "What's wrong? What has you upset?" "Is Bubby going to be scared tomorrow?"
Layla cut her eyes up at Sam, tears starting to brim in her eyes. "Me and Daddy are going to be with him like we were with you a couple months ago." "I'm his sissy, Mommy. What if he needs me?! And I'm already in class?! And then he's going to be scared and be upset with me." Tears came streaming from her eyes as she began sobbing. He leaned over, smoothing out her hair. "Honey, Bubby wouldn't be mad or upset with you over that. Are you having big feelings right now?" She nodded, sniffles wracking her whole body. "Baby, what can we do to make you feel better?" "Can I take Bubby to class tomorrow?" He brushed a hair from her face, wiping a tear. "I think me and Mommy are okay with you coming with us." "Absolutely, my baby." She wiped her eyes roughly, "Thank you." "You still have to get up regular time, though. So, Daddy and me will come tuck you in. Let's go." She stood the best she could, holding onto Juniper's hand. They had found out directly after Juniper started school that they were pregnant again. Sam followed his girls into his daughter's room. Juniper climbed into bed, looking expectantly at her parents. Layla walked over and kissed her forehead, covering her up, "Love you, sweet girl." Sam walked up behind Layla, ducking around her to kiss Juniper's cheek as she laid down. "Have good dreams. What are we supposed to do if we have bad dreams?" "Come get you and Mommy so you can vacuum them out." "Right on the money." He tapped her nose. He grabbed Layla's hand as they made their way back into their bedroom.
He let her get her bedtime routine done, getting her comfortable in bed, before starting his routine. Mid washing his face he turned into the doorway to look at his wife, "Why is Bean so upset?" "I think she's old enough now that she's in that sweet spot of seeing him as her brother and not a pest." She said, laying back, rubbing her belly, "She's developing empathy on a conscious level." "She just had her first day." "Mhm. And we both remember how upset she was." "God, I love our kids." He rinsed his face, making his way into bed with her. "How are you feeling?" "More tired during the day. I hate that you have to leave soon." "We're pumping out as many tour dates as possible so I can be home for the rest of the year with you and the kids. I think we're all planning on taking a break. With Lauren just finding out she's pregnant, Jake feeling like he's missing out on the twins and with Savannah having Joanie a couple weeks ago, I'm almost positive Danny's going to propose to Ivy while we're in Canada at a show." "I really don't know what's taken him so long. They've been together five years." "Well, babe, our professional ball hasn't stopped rolling." "We've had almost two kids since then." "Because I can't keep my hands off you." She rolled her eyes, "Come snuggle me. We have a big day tomorrow. Our boy has school."

Sam rubbed his face into Layla's pregnancy pillow as her alarm went off. "How the fuck is it 6:30 already?" "Our house isn't going to be full of people this time around. We have to go wake the little monkeys." She sat up the best she could and stretched. Before either of them could fully get up, both kids came barreling into their room. Atlas was absolutely beaming, "I go to school today, Mommy!" Juniper climbed into the bed and Layla picked Atlas up. "I know big boy, are you excited or scared?" "'cited!" "What sounds good for breakfast this morning? It's your choice because it's your first day." "Um, 'bwowns and eggs!" "Hashbrows and eggs. Do you want toast?" "No." "What fruit?" "Bewwies." "Do you want cheese on your eggs?" "Yes!" "Hmmm, and what juice?" "Gwape!" "That sounds like a good breakfast. Do you think Daddy should get up and help us?" Sam had closed his eyes and started fake snoring. Atlas leaned over, giggling, "Daddy! You gotta waked up!" "Wake up?! Nooooo! We aren't doing anything important today. I think we can sleep in." He wrapped Juniper in his arms, rolling over, fake snoring loudly. Atlas leaned over again, "Daddy! I'm goin' to school today!" Sam rolled back over, flinging Juniper around in his arms, "School?! Nuh uh! You're my baby. You're not big enough for school." "I'm free, Daddy!" "Three?! No way." "Yes way!" "Do you wanna get dressed while Mommy's cooking or do you want me to cook and Mommy help you get ready?" "You help!"
