trigger warning: description of self harm/suicidal thoughts
In seventh grade she learned that self harm was a thing that people did. Her best friend, who later became her first love, was the one who she found out from.
The girl saw the other girl's arm when she pulled her sleeves up, and her eyes widened a bit. The layered scars crossed under fresh cuts, and the girl had never seen such straight scratches.
So she made the first earth-shattering mistake of her life.
She asked her best friend about her arm and thigh scars and cuts.
Maybe the girl would have found out about self harm anyway, through social media or health class. Maybe she would have found out reasons people cut themselves regardless of her best friend's experiences. Maybe the path of self hate would have been extended even if she hadn't been too curious in that moment.
But she was too curious and asked too many questions.
Curiosity killed the cat.
