The Vampire Masquerade - Peter Gundry

Tonight Ve' Dance - Peter Gundry

The song of the waltz start playing. It's been awhile and I still can't find her. She's disappeared in the ballroom full of people. She is supposed to be my dance partner, and now I am all alone.

Different kind of masks and costumes, beautiful ball gowns. All the identities remain secret, but I do know her even if she wears any disguises hoping that I won't recognize her in this crowded room. And yet, she is nowhere to be found.

This masquerade ball was her idea. She wanted to celebrate our 100th wedding anniversary by throwing a massive party in our massive castle. But, she's gone now, left me alone behind.

Did she think about me before she decided to run away?

Is she bored of me yet? No, there is no way she's bored of me.

We both have took our vows on the altar a century ago. We won't leave each other till death do us apart.

Where is she now? I'm tired of waiting and seeing pairs dancing with full of joy.

I walk in rush. She must be somewhere. Not even The Void can take her away from me. I have to find her. I searched to all the corridors, opened all the doors of the uncountable rooms. She hasn't yet been found. I'm starting to panic. Until I remember something–something that she told me ages ago.

"This castle of yours is too big for me, my darling. Too many rooms and no one is here but the two of us. It's so empty and I feel so lonely."

"How can you feel lonely while you already have me, my dearest queen?"

"Oh... wait, it seems that you misunderstood me. I am not finished yet, love. Why do you like to interrupt me when I'm talking?" And she giggled, the most adorable giggle I've ever heard.

"Oh, my lady. Pardon me, you had me worried."

She smiled and said, "There is a place in this huge castle I've always loved to pay visit when I'm feeling blue. Do you know where it is, my lord?"

"No, I'm afraid not."

"Very well then. Come and follow me, I will show you." And I did what she asked.

She must be there. The hidden place that she claimed to be hers only. A place at the very top of this castle. A place that used to be untouchable and abandoned that somehow she has magically turned it into a lovely comfortable chamber, quite small but fit for at least three people. I know, she must be staying there. She hates being in crowds yet she insisted to held a party. How stubborn she is!

Then, I run as fast as I can, climb through all the stairs this building offers. I don't care that I'm suffocating myself because of the lack of oxygens I breathe.
Here I am now, in front of the enchanting place my dearest wife owns. I slowly open the big wood-made doors.

She is there just like I thought, laying on her back with her arms placed a crossed her stomach. A stabbed wound still wide open on the middle of her chest. Her white satin ball gown soaking in red. In the corner of the room, silver blade laid still on the floor covered in blood.

"I know this day will comes."

I left the room opened, walking away from the room with a tiny smile.

-end.
