Morgans P.O.V:
Ms Dean smiled at my question, "Yes of course they're just—," I bite my lip as I lean forward, intentionally a little too close to her.
She goes completely silent.
I take my time reaching for the book, all too aware of Alyssa's eyes on me.
At first I thought Mackenzie was delusional but now I wasn't entirely sure.
Eventually I lean back up, watching as her eyes trail back up to my face.
They were wide open, her lashes beating furiously behind her glasses as she held my gaze.
Fuck, Mackenzie.
I tilt my lips upward, smiling gently, "Thanks Ms Dean."
She didn't have a chance to reply— though I question whether she could have— as I turn around, following Mackenzie's smirk, and sit in my chair.
I ignored her: 'I told you so' instead sighing as I began to think about the whole situation, my stomach knotting in the process.
She's not into me in that way. I tell myself, despite the words Mack was now spewing excitedly.
She's not into me in that way. I repeat once more, thinking back to Kylie.
I had a girlfriend after all, a girlfriend who I cared about and who cared about me.
A feeling of guilt surges through me, accompanied by unease, but it disappears the moment I exhale.
However the guilt still remained, I realise, as I spare a glance to Ms Deans desk, who currently still stared at me with that same hazy vision.
I look back to Mackenzie, finally deciding to listen to her, "So what now? Are you guys gonna stay back behind class and participate in some 'premarital fornication'." She asks jokingly.
I knee the desk in shock and almost choke on my words, "What? No, no way."
She tips her head back and laughs, while I try desperately to calm my emotions.
"I don't know if i've mentioned this but I have a girlfriend and I am not going to cheat on her." I reply firmly and her laughter ceases.
"Yes I know, it was just a joke."
I turn to face forward in my desk, looking down at the closed textbook and turn it to the desired page.
Ms Dean had since been talking to the class, but I couldn't seem to focus, the pages a blur of ink.
Mackenzie stirs from beside me, crossing her legs as she says, "All I'm saying is that she... notices you."
"Conversation is over." I reply almost bitterly while beginning to write down textbook questions— my fingers trembling slightly.
She ignores me and continues, "And I think— as much as you deny it— you more than notice her too."
My fingers stop trembling and I fight the urge to look towards the front of the room, knowing it would not only prove her right-
-but also do the same for the fears I tried so desperately to ignore.
