Chapter 2
Qui-gon glanced at Jade from the side. Yoda had been right, she was a difficult person to work with. She didn’t seem to like him. “Maybe she had bad experience with the Jedi”, Qui-gon thought to himself. She had definitely had some bad experience. Her right Hand was mechanical and her right eye was surrounded by a metal plate and replaced by a glowing green droid eye. For a while she remained silent, then as the ship went into hyperspace she shifted slightly and glared at the Jedi master. “You are thinking about how I ended up like this, am I right?”, she asked coldly. “Yes, to be earnest I am.”, Qui-gon answered simply. “Well long story short I got in master Ki-adi Mundis way. Oh and if the Chancellor wasn’t paying me a fortune to help the republic and if there weren’t so many lives at stake I wouldn’t even consider working with a Jedi. I don’t really want to loose the second half of my face!”, she explained. Qui-gon recalled what Yoda had told him. “Like the Jedi she does not and her reasons she has!”, he had said with a regretful look in his old wise eyes.
“I am nothing like Ki-adi Mundi. I think before I strike”, Qui-gon promised. Jade laughed:” That’s not like promising not to strike me down!” “I guess it isn’t. But I don’t know you, I don’t fully know your intentions. So if I have to I don’t want to be bound by a promise I gave hastily.”, Qui-gon answered. “I guess that’s wise”, Jade said smiling slightly. “But that also gives me the right not to promise to not shoot you down!”, she added after a minute of silence. “Deal”, Qui-gon laughed. “Have we really just agreed not to promise to not kill each other?”, the Jedi Master though to himself:” Wow, what a great start!”
